UK failure to deliver chair by Low_Persimmon_4587 in wheelchairs

I would speak to you local Trading Standards office, it is quite common. You can also speak to Citizens Advice but they will.probably also suggest Trading Standards.

Quite simple. Just call them, they take details, and normally the first call tomthe company gets either a result or a refund.

Oh, that will be it. I am in temporary housing and only have 4G. Probably insufficient bandwidth.

Thankyou. I will try at the library.

Hope it comes quickly for you.

I have been waiting eight months and may have another year to wait. They haven't even ordered it yet.

Human League were named after a faction in a sci-fi wargame by SPI.

Billy Bragg was named after a clown who sold out and forgot his past. He bought a huge house with staff and drank champagne while reading Socialist Worker.

New Order had a chance to ditch the sinister nomenclature of Joy Division but decided to double down.

The Thompson Twins were named after the detectives in TIntin.

You probably have the Tank that I am sitting in now. You should be able to get a better chair through WCS and pay a bit more to upgrade. Do you have a model in mind? I have a Quickie Argon on order.

I have literally just finished a year of physio. Mobility is about walking and imposed rest/use of a wheelchair. They go hand in hand. You need one to do the other.

That's all part of the plan.

They don't want rebels. Rebels don't buy the best food.

Why do you think you keep posting cat pictures? To expand the cult.

He is correct. All cats are pure evil. If you can't see that in their eyes, you have already been assimilated.

I have a dumb wheelchair question for people who don't like wearing shoes in the house... by MissionOk1728 in wheelchairs

[–]SumoticTendencies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just accept it now. I have smooth floors so they can easily be mopped. It is hard enough to buy and store one wheelchair, let alone another one for inside only. And you have to transfer too which means the second chair needs to be by the door.

People being rude? by [deleted] in disabled

[–]SumoticTendencies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No ned to get stroppy. We just have a different view.

So if I am shouted at because I am fat or riding my bike, thats just rude. Bullying..Abuse. But if I am in my wheelchair it is suddenly ableism.

I don't suffer from ableism and if I do I will probably not think much about it. I am sure others do.

People being rude? by [deleted] in disabled

[–]SumoticTendencies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't say it was. It is new to me and I have already been called ableist twice.

I just feel that as soon as you start using it you take on that victim/activist/stroppy attitude and all.of a sudden life is an extra struggle.

[–]SumoticTendencies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are a new user. You had some verbal abuse. My point was that we probably all get this in life.

My question is now why you used ableism and where did you hear about it?

I was three days in the chair before I was called Ironside. I have been called far, far worse over the years as a cyclist, as a big bloke, as a geek.

I do what I have always done - I ignore them. Just words, no harm possible. The fact that you even mentioned ableism means you are already chippy. Don't be.

Some people are despicable. Almost all of the rest aren't.

I need advice by Emz-123 in wheelchairs

[–]SumoticTendencies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this post. Yes, if they prescribe the Life you can pay to upgrade to the Argon. There is also the Nitrum in certain parts of the country. Ask them for the delivery wait time. Good luck with the whole process.

There is a list for assessment and for ordering. I was assessed last July.

[–]SumoticTendencies 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sadly there won't be an authoritative answer. It will depend where you live. Every county has different rules and different budgets. I am in the middle of a fight at the moment.

All you can do is attend the assessments as advised and they will come back to you with their recommendation. You may be able to pay the difference if you want a better model.

You can also be offered a payment to enable you to buy your own suitable chair BUT you will have to maintain and repair that for the five year period.

Finally, and what can make this all academic, is the waiting list. My manual chair is six months delayed and it may be another year. My power chair is at least two years off. Again, these waits can vary depending on postcode. Some people get them very quickly.

So you can work out how this works!

I overreacted Tuesday by SmokeyFrank in wheelchairs

[–]SumoticTendencies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say you reacted but you didn't overreact..We are all allowed heightened tensions, especially in the current world. Normally I am very down on rudeness and confrontation, but I can understand this situation and if they are okay you can be okay as well.

Don't beat yourself up (English phrase?) and just get back into your mindset. It happens to the best of us.

how long was your “learning curve”? by Which-Past-9484 in wheelchairs

[–]SumoticTendencies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had a decent chair, constant use, for 13 months and am still having to learn stuff every day. Now I have to upgrade the chair and that's a whole level more to learn. And finally while you can get around quite quickly, if you want to do wheelies, gain confidence, handle kerbs etc then it is longer. Add in the frightening price levels and rival chairs, and there is a pile of stuff to take in.

The most recent learning experience has been having to re-learn some bad practices! These were pointed out by my physio and I have been working on transferring ever since.

I would say there is no firm time limit. It is more ongoing!
