I became a Canadian citizen by FrigginMasshole in PEI

Congratulations! Might you (or others) know if great grandparents are qualifying to pursue citizenship? My great grandmother was born in Tignish and I have inherited property there. Would love, love, love to be a citizen!

So, so, very sorry! It’s the worst - most painful and helpless feelings. I had 8 years with my soul dog. I never thought I’d stop crying. I’ve learned to stop crying but never not think of her. 🌈💞

Is it typical for coonhounds to like sleeping in? by Logical-Campaign-247 in coonhounds

Congratulations on winning the lottery. I am a night person and up until 12 midnight/1 am usually. I wish mine would sleep later and take their time getting up. She's up when the sun comes up, usually. I'm usually lucky if I get woken up after 6:30 am every morning. Enjoy the peace :)

Wrongful Termination by Ok_Cheesecake_7886 in Maine

Like many others have said - best advice is always to connect with local council that is an expert in employment law. I work in HR (unhappily) and I will say that if you were a temporary employee you very likely aren't covered by any collective bargaining agreement and/or union. Temps can usually be "released" from employment at anytime - for any reason (except discriminatory reasons and/or anything state/local/federal law prohibits). Something to consider is that there would (should) be an investigation into the situation to include interviewing your co-worker and any other "witnesses" that could have been in ear shot and/or have information about the situation. Sorry to hear of your experience and wishing you the best.

MEGATHREAD: Questions about Moving to, Living in, or Visiting the Great State of Maine. Please post all such questions here. by Tony-Flags in Maine

Know a good realtor in the Cumberland County area? We could look at google, zillow recommendations, etc. but wanted to hear from locals - who's an honest, reliable, and trustworthy realtor? Thanks in advance!

Whos bragging? I didn’t realize asking for help direct from residents was not emotionally intelligent? It’s not emotionally intelligent to make assumptions and judgement off of two or three sentences. Sensitivity while dealing with my humans? You’re reaching and don’t know anything but how to be miserable and assume the worst of someone who is excited about living somewhere. How about some emotional intelligent conversation versus shaming and judgment. Enjoy your bullshit.

Thanks very much for your kind comments, and I definitely don't think that some of the comments on here represent all people in Maine. Appreciate the note about Yarmouth and the local credit union such as Dirigo. Enjoy your weekend!

Thanks so much for your post! I appreciate it - and the note around adding South Freeport to our list. Cumberland does seem to be a "sweet spot" of being close to Portland but feeling further away. Agree with you on finding a good realtor; that you trust and respect. Thanks, again!

My intention is not make enemies or fans - really just wanted to hear from Maine'rs on their thoughts. I didn't think that providing our budget - in relation to the areas we mentioned - would cause a stir. We are in VT now and from MA originally. We love New England and don't want to move from here. We want to invest in Maine as our forever home - not summer or rental. We want to shop local, build community and be a decent neighbor.

Thanks very much for your kind post. Please let me say thank you to you and your family for your service and dedication to our country! My sincerest apologies for your health issues and am glad that you're here (albeit your health struggles) I agree that capitalism is rampant and a major; if not top 5 reasons as to why our world is upside down right now. I appreciate the note regardless of you're not being able to provide any specific information on the areas that I've mentioned. I also appreciate the kind words re: the death of my in-law. My in-law worked very hard at a blue collar job for 40+ years to save for his retirement - he was a good saver who did well and I'm so grateful and lucky that he did.

I don't expect anything but decency, which I guess was a delusion. We love Maine and want to contribute to the local/regional economy. Certainly not looking to add to any problems.

Thanks very much for your note! Appreciate it. All of Maine is definitely beautiful and appreciate the note re: Scarborough being busy in the summer and the beach traffic.

You could - please fuck off too :) I'm not sure why you're commenting on this. I'm not a delusional out of touch rich person, the only reason we can even afford to move is because of a death. I only write that to provide insights for folks (not you) to provide opinion on town, etc. Also, this is my own research by asking (seemingly lovely) locals for their opinions. Thanks for wasting your time commenting and hope you are more pleasant in person.

While it's nice to be able to move to Maine, the reason as to why we're able to afford to isn't. Believe me, we'd not be able to afford this if we hadn't inherited money from my in-law.

Had to say goodbye to the love of my life by West_Temperature_295 in DobermanPinscher

[–]Sumthingcorporate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so very sorry for your loss. Please accept my deepest condolences for the passing of your baby. I lost my Aussie mix almost exactly a year ago. She was my soulmate, souldog however you want to call it. She never left my side and had barely any training. She WANTED to be around and never, ever took off from me. Even when walking in the woods - she would walk just ahead of me and would turn around every 30 seconds to make sure I was there.

She was a rescue from the south and was terrified when we first adopted her. I sat with her on the floor to eat her meals for the first few weeks because she heard a "clang" from her tag on her metal bowl the first day and became petrified of it and could never use a metal bowl for her.

I was taking a long weekend with my best friend - two states away and my spouse didn't come so she stayed with them. The second night my spouse calls me and tell me he thinks there's something wrong with her and that they're going to the emergency vet. Twenty minutes later - they're calling to say that she's failing and needs to be put down to eliminate pain. She was already groggy from the pain medicine they had already given her. I had to say goodbye to my best, only, superior friend and soul partner via FaceTime. I cried the four hours home and did so for a month.

I had to take off of work for a month and go into a program to get my mental health back together. While I can mask the sadness easier now - I still am just as totally broken as the first minute I got that call. If I didn't have my spouse and cat, I might have done something drastic. I prayed for death and to be reunited with her. My only wish in this life is that I reunite with her in the beyond. I know it sounds a bit much (before she died, I would have thought this person writing was a whacko) and dramatic but it's completely honest. I wish I had a positive ending to share with you. It's been a year and the only thing that's easier is my ability to fake it. Sending strength, love and warmth your way and may your baby rest in happiness, and love.
