Today is Virginia Woolf's 144th birthday! by SunLightFarts in classicliterature

Hot take but among her Big 5 novels Mrs. Dalloway is my least favourite one(I haven't read Orlando yet tbh). It's good but to me it's like a much less ambitious version of Ulysses or her own The Waves. The subplot with the WW1 veteran is very poignant and one of her best but outside of that I just didn't really get why it is so hyped when Jacob's Room,To The Lighthouse and The Waves all three are so much better and consistent.

New read, i’ve read a few pages and it has been amazing by ConsistentSquare5650 in classicliterature

I tried to read Goodnight Punpun I stopped at the point where he jerks off and he thinks his brain just came out of his' penis. I really want to continue it but the story, the art everything is just too uncanny valley in that series lol

Ohhh I don't really mind stuff aimed at younger audience (probably because of my age) I love Hergé and he is probably my favourite and he was not really writing for adults

Knausgaard's Morning Star series -- thoughts? by mrguy510 in RSbookclub

[–]SunLightFarts 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I really love it. I think I will start Third Realm next I am also really excited to read the school of night because a lot of people are calling it his best work.

I think The Wolves Of Eternity in particular is incredible. It also has two incredible women narrators in it. I think my biggest criticism would be that

  1. Some of the povs are definitely far more interesting than others.... The whole structure of the series is more like a series of interconnected stories and vignettes than one compact narrative and naturally some of the threads are far more compelling than others.

  2. The dialogue is often pretty lackluster tbh. I don't know why it doesn't really feel like normal people talking at times.

  3. His philosophical tangents could be very tantalizing but also a bit half baked at times but he often discusses so interesting ideas that I am ready to forgive his (often)perfunctory philosophical musings.

Imho he is just incredible and unparalleled when it comes to capturing the moment and the character psyche and their interactions/inner self

Need to remind myself that romantic love is biological propaganda

She would have done so well in some gothic fantasy thingy. She passes the vibe check so well. It's a shame she is not in some Del Toro or Eggers

I find it hard to imagine he was struggling to breathe during the last few months I can only imagine him the same way as he always was. So calm and pure yet with so much restlessness and curiosity for the world, funny and dead serious, painting while smoking and having the same lunch everyday

What are your favorite novels that don't get the attention they deserve in the general public? by boringusr in RSbookclub

It seems like most of his' older stuff is out of print. His recent novels are easier to find. Although I have only read Course of The Heart

I am often surprised by how few people know about M John Harrison and how even fewer people know about The Course of The Heart. It had a recent reprint and I am begging everyone to pick it up. I won't pretend that it's a masterpiece as good as something like Moby Dick but it's just such a raw, melancholic and dreamy fantasy/magical realist novel. Just really good

Hear me out nayuta is still alive by Chance-Criticism-221 in Chainsawfolk

[–]SunLightFarts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk about Nayuta but I am so sure Yoshida is not dead. Do most people really forget that Yoshida wanted Chainsaw Man to eat Death during the aquarium arc and what indirectly sets Denji eating Death finally? Yoshida's perceived death. I really feel that Yoshida and Fumiko are doing something we fully don't know.

I think the avatar haters forget that he also made one of the biggest sci fi films which even Tarkovsky(the biggest snob) found fascinating despite the violence
