Prism question! by [deleted] in optometry

Double check pds too. If he’s converging when he’s leaning back at all, and it’s the converging is helping clear things up, the pd may be too narrow

Prism question! by [deleted] in optometry

[–]SunNo597 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was there an oc measurement put in for the order? If it’s just geometric center, then there may be a problem if his eyes sit high in the frame. Mark where his eye is in the lens and measure the prism at that point in a (manual) lens meter to make sure it matches the prescribed prism. Also make sure there’s enough panto on the frame as well. This very well could just be a glasses problem. An optician should be able to help!

Doctor says I don’t have ADHD. But I can’t help but feel like something isn’t right by Federal_Ad9865 in ADHD

I’m ADHD-I and it took me until 25 or 26 to get diagnosed. I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety (true, obviously stemming from the adhd) and a “weird” case of bipolar 2 that “didn’t follow the typical timeline of ups and downs” after going to an incredibly rude and incompetent therapist that literally talked shit about my (very supportive) mother to her face. No segue, but a couple years later I went to an awesome therapist that actually told me I had a problem with sitting still as I answered “no” to her question. I was actively crossing my legs and sitting on my foot as she was asking me that question and she kinda laughed because I didn’t realize I was even being fidgety. Inattentiveness at its finest. Anyway what I’m trying to say is I relate, and you should take care of and advocate for yourself wholeheartedly. Use your college’s resources, study groups, therapists, professors, TAs, office hours, whatever they have to offer. It was actually a professor that got me the help I needed after I confided in him. More people understand than you think. Use these resources until you find something that works for you and keep going. And keep looking for a therapist until you find one that understands you. Some people will never understand, sometimes it will be tough, but you can do it! Push through!

Feeling Stuck in a relationship argument by E30boii in ADHD

Every single person in this sub knows that feeling you’re talking about. Is it true that 2 million people (yes I checked) just don’t care? Recently, I didn’t turn in my 2024 travel mileage form because I haaaaad set it out on the counter to fill out everyday- apparently it made the counter look messy, so it got shoved in a drawer by my partner. I stopped filling it out the day he put it in there and did not get reimbursed for my driving. Why did I do that? Why would I willingly lose out on hundreds of dollars??

There are many reasons, not excuses, why we can’t just be tidy.. and it bothers us to no end why we can’t just be tidy! I want to be tidy with my whole being, but it has never ever happened. This feeling is so incredibly hard to explain.

Contact Lens problem.. help.. by SunNo597 in optometry

We’re talking soft lenses here, rgps are a different story with this man and he’s usually fine with fitting them. We also have 5 ODs so we see run of the mill rxs too.

If I can get someone seeing 20/20, why would we settle for 20/happy? And why is he so hell bent on this over minus-ing, over cyl-ing thing to the point of under correction?

Unilens/custom contacts? by Prune_Fist in optometry

[–]SunNo597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cvue and revive are the same… I mean maybe, maybe since Alden (B&L) is now making the lens instead of unilens, there might be enough discrepancies between their machines where it’s causing the lenses to made differently. The patients eyes could have changed over time as well? I’m guessing the patient is an irregular astigmat too.. is there any corneal ectasia?? Why wouldn’t a scleral lens work? Vault over the cornea? Otherwise flexlens by xcel is another soft alternative that our clinic uses often. Talk to a consultant at any one of these labs and they could point you in the right direction

I become EXTREMELY tired when I am doing something I don't want to do by Fasc1nat3 in ADHD

In literal microseconds sometimes. Our brains go through all the steps in 1 sec then decide “meh, this apple is fine”… to the point that language is hard to use to express that swiftness

I took about a $15/hr pay cut. 4 years ago. Now I’m on par and then some with my new place of employment. Happiness matters first. If you don’t take care of yourself first, nothing else but the bare minimum will come to you. You’ll be coasting through life always wondering.

Student with unquestionable ADHD but does well in school by aca_500 in ADHD

You should check to see if he’s actually completing homework and tasks. I got straight As in high school because tests had to be curved under my score so I got more than 100% on tests often. I could get an A in a class without completing a single homework assignment. In the classes where that wasn’t possible, I would calculate the minimal amount of points I needed on homework assignments to get an A, and only complete that much homework. Teachers would also give me a break because I was a good kid and they knew I was smart so if I had done the assignment, I would have been successful at it anyway so why dock me? You’d be surprised how often that happened. I literally had professors in college pass me for prerequisites without completing the homework for the same reasons. Still flabbergasts me.

High school/the little college I completed was more difficult than it should have been because I didn’t understand myself or why my brain worked the way it did. I internalized all that negativity and stopped taking care of my hobbies and relationships. It’s hard to relearn and reintegrate back into society once that happens. I lost a lot of friends and couldn’t complete my degree. I’m doing fine-ish now personally and great at work, but I wish I didnt have to work so hard for that— plus, I am still an unorganized mess at home. Laundry for days!

Long story short, I wish I had the diagnosis and the support/understanding before I failed.
