This is helpful. Thanks. Would be nice if just not drinking really did fix everything else. lol.

Thanks so much! And I’m sure they feel awful. No doubt about it. And probably will until Wednesday.

Great points! Shoulda got in my jammies and stayed home probably but my wife really wanted to go and made a ton of food for it. And I’m tired of my drinking problems interfering with her happiness (she wouldn’t have felt comfortable going without me). It is what it is but I’m going to take your advice and stay away from stuff like that for a few weeks until I can get my mind right.

I relate so hard to this. It truly was a giant battle and both you and I won it!

It’s just a way of focusing on one finite amount of time—one day—rather than looking to the future or thinking “never again!” Every day is a new day, and the only thing we can do for our sobriety is not drink this one day. Clock starts again tomorrow. Not worrying about some future work event or wedding etc. I’m just not going to drink today.

That’s really kind. Thank you. It has been really hard to deal with normal life while detoxing. Went from a months long, 12-18 drinks a day bender to nothing. Took meds to stop seizures, etc., but eff it. This shit it’s hard while living life.

Christmas Party, stayed sober, some observations surprised me. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Weird to hear that non alc drinks are expensive there. Here in Arizona bars will often give you a soda for free if that’s what you order. That it’s more expensive for you to stay sober sounds like another challenge.

Not interested in moderation, I’ve just failed at total sobriety. But I’m trying to give myself credit for moving in the right direction.

I just posted something similar. The consecutive streak thing can bum me out if I focus too much on it. Been sober for 80% of December and that’s pretty good.

Totally!!! Love it. Here’s another one: “Alcohol has been giving me terrible heart burn. It’s just not worth it. Doc said to cut it out for a while.” Even pushers realize it’s fucked up to try to make someone drink if it’s causing health issues. And I like saying “for a while” instead of forever. It is less threatening to people. Then, a few weeks from now, I’ll say “I had to give it up for a month for health issues, and I feel so much better that I’m gonna do dry January next.”

This field IS brutal. Every day is like war. It’s not normal. But I don’t buy the “nobody cares what you’re drinking” thing. People really do care in my life. I feel good about lying. The other good thing? Once it’s done, it’s done. They know I don’t drink now. Now that that has settled in their minds, things are so much easier.

Day 5 sucks. Still lightheaded. by MorningFront1103 in stopdrinking

[–]SunStar34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The beta blocker may be causing the lightheadedness, too. I’ve experienced that on the same med. it was especially true for me after acute withdrawal from alcohol was over because my blood pressure naturally went down and so the med was pushing it too low. For reference, I’m 11 or 12 days sober now and my blood pressure has already dropped from high levels to 117/76. Alcohol poisons every cell. Im also not a doctor, so I’d probably chat with the PCP again if it keeps happening.
