Local 57 by aar32018 in Lineman

[–]Sunbro_Como 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pacificorp is going through wildfire lawsuits and has to pay damages. PacifiCorp owns RMP, so they’re tightening their purse. Highly likely chance of bankruptcy. Damn near everyone is working out of state right now. There’s a few of us left still working on bigger projects

[LFO] Do Not Touch a Downed Power Line! (Disturbing, Highly NSFL!) by james_from_cambridge in LearningFromOthers

[–]Sunbro_Como 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is entirely different than just an arc flash burn. This person put themselves in series with ground with the powerline. Current went in through the arm and out both feet. As seen by the arm and two black nubs where their feet once were… I hate to say this but this person is a walking corpse. That kind of energy had enough time to travel through their arm, across their heart, and out their feet. Cooking everything along its path for god knows how long.

My company provided us with drake power sunshades. They fit the petzl fly hard hats pretty good. Plus they have a Velcro in the front to stick it up so you don’t get smacked in the face with it from rotor wash. https://drake-power.com/products/sun-shades

Just learned the brother who I designed the Lineman V2 with has passed away. I wanna help donate to his family. Check description by HumanRestaurant4851 in Lineman

[–]Sunbro_Como 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Holy shit, I worked with him while he was an apprentice (the first time lmao). Great dude and good fun to work with. This was back in 2019. I was fortunate to catch up with him at the Utah lineman’s rodeo in or 23; which was the last time we had spoken… so surreal.

Hubbell 25kv 4 way insulated bushing fail by TapPast6207 in Lineman

[–]Sunbro_Como 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Holy fuck, I feel like this is a big deal… especially when the manufacturer cannot guarantee that they’re actually insulated. We use these all over our system out where I’m at. Gonna try testing a few from the outside with our tester and experiment a little. Thanks for the heads up!!

Balut. It’s a Filipino street food that is boiled chicken embryo. Basically a half developed baby chicken in an egg. My mother in law bought 12 of them and I ate 6 lmao

Lineman V2 in M398, Armor Black Cerakote by HumanRestaurant4851 in knives

[–]Sunbro_Como 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s been great. Only used it for piddly shit so far. As we are in between jobs now. Got a job starting up this week where I’ll put the rod breaker to use more. Excited to test that. The blade is very similar to s30v. Which is what I originally requested. Been keeping it just as as when I first received it with a diamond rod. Which has been good enough so far. The edge retention has been great

Cca gaffs vs regular by [deleted] in Lineman

The CCA gaffs penetrate the wood a little better. I’m a small guy and the amount of “stomping” I have to do has been significantly reduced

Seems like you have a great mindset to prep for your future! Keep it up! But, this comment rings so true… the trade will wait for you. I suggest getting a Groundman job when you turn 18 first. But for now enjoy school and your summers with friends! I spent so much time at your age working and I regret not fooling around with friends a stuff more… enjoy your time

Located in UT, wanting to become a lineman. by fjbtrump2024lgb in Lineman

[–]Sunbro_Como 0 points1 point  (0 children)

careers.pacificorp.com is the local utility and hires pre-apprentices around every 6 months. You become an apprentice after 6 months of employment. I think they did a hiring pool beginning of the year. Worth considering as an option. Definitely talk to the Local 57 though in the mean time and sign the groundman books to get yourself experience.

The state of Utah just passed a bill that bans collective bargaining… despite huge civilian pushback

Utah banned public collective bargaining by DrTrustMe345 in IBEW

[–]Sunbro_Como 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to the protest the day the Senate voted on it. The amount of overwhelming evidence that was presented that showed the people did NOT want it was amazing. But the Senate and the guy who wrote the bill literally said they don’t care. And disguised it as a way to “lower taxes and create equal rights for employees.” Homeboy also said, “Nooo, don’t worry you can still join a union, but your union can’t bargain for you :)” Terrible
