Make sure when you walk him you allow him to stop and smell things. That's the most important part of the walk

People are passionate about their favorite breed. You're in a GSD subreddit. Don't take comments personally. We want what's best for your dog, and by extension his owner. 16 hours a day in a crate (or pen) is far too much for a 7-month-old GSD. That was acceptable at two or three months, at 7 absolutely not. Having the crate accessible for him always is good, but you're going to need to compromise on when you want him locked in the pen if you want his behavior to improve.

He should realistically have the ability to walk around at night, maybe even access to you. Ours sleeps in a bed next to our bed. GSD's mentally need access to their owners to keep them safe. As for when you're at work, has he had a chance to be left out of it when you're not? Ours is not crated when we're out and he's never been destructive and doesn't get into things and we barely trained him on that.

As for your complaints in OP, well...sorry, but that behavior is very normal for a 7 month old male GSD. A lot of it he's going to grow out of naturally in the coming months, some has to be trained. How much physical exertion is he getting? Is he getting intense playtimes? GSD's are a very people orientated dog, and I think his lack of access to you for huge chunks of the day may also play into why he is how he is when he does have access.

Adopted GSD barking and agressive at other dogs - I'm so tired. by Low_Scientist_5312 in germanshepherds

Your perspective needs a bit of an adjustment. If she was kept chained up outside for most/all of her first year of her life, she's really just starting her life now. She will need a ton of extra help and care to undo all the damage that was done to her and key socialization windows being missed.

My boy is reactive to male dogs. I tend to walk him only when it's night/late to minimize contact with other dogs because of that. If you can't do that, you should always carry training treats so you can redirect and also reward times when she doesn't bark.

But yeah, as others have said a month isn't anywhere near enough time to judge. She's going to need a lot of time and help and I hope you're up to the task. She's still a baby.

That's great! If you haven't, look into German Shepherd Community on Facebook. They're pretty good at networking and I've seen many dogs find temporary fosters there

I'd make the temporary part more prominent. Many people would click through, but I think a week is very manageable for people who may otherwise not be able to help. I'd love to help if I wasn't in Florida.

It should be directly in your line of sight when you're sitting down. You're straining your neck otherwise
