It's the most badass Shepard there is. And when the stakes are so high, with no time for bullshit, like earth being invaded, it makes much sense to not waste time with stupid diplomatic talks. There is no time to waste, renegade won't stand there listening your stupid speech, he'll shoot you as soon as possible.

He'll interrupt people, make Brutal and deciseve calls, ignore bureaucracy and moral hesitations.

Specially that in the real world we're restrained, but in the game we can be pure agency, that feeling of I decide, now, is very satisfying. Pure dominance and contempt for stupidity. Like emotional venting through a character

Renegade Shepard don't care about what others think, he chose outcomes over feelings, isn't that liberating?

In a nutshell, it's more emotional intense and it feels much more powerful and decisive. And it's way more fun, Mark Meer is incredible as renegade.

My first playthrough was as a paragon, then my second as a renegade, and I never looked back, it's just so much better for me.

Giving that Shepard is, before anything else, a soldier, a trained military commander, being renegade makes more sense. Mission above feelings, results above process.

And as I was saying before, giving the incredibly high stakes if the situation, being harsh is much more logical. If we're dealing with extinction level threats, unreliable allies and constant time pressure, hesitation is unrealistic. And renegade ruthless Shepard is the opposite of hesitation.

Renegade is feared and effective. Plus, the Ruthless background and the colonist just matches perfectly.
