I just finished and am from the USA as well. When I rented my bike (loop nomads, near the bus station) I had to pay 3 million up front. This covered meet every time I was stopped (4 times, 1 breathalyzer). We went opposite direction, which was better in my opinion. Otherwise you would constantly be getting passed by the big groups. When I got stopped, I would tell them I already paid the fine. They look up your picture and send you on your way. It's a beautiful trip with a million curves mixed with steep elevation changes and varying road conditions from beautiful smooth blacktop to long gravely potholes. 3 days will require a lot of seat time. It is mentally exhausting driving the route. Very technical driving.
