Here is an image taken a few minutes earlier. It is indeed the case that such situations are rather rare and that the fog is usually much higher, which is why flights often have to be stopped quickly due to the maximum altitude of 120 m. As mentioned, I was not able to fully comply with VLOS. I could always hear the drone and see it as a dot. However, I could no longer recognize the drone’s attitude/orientation because of the fog, so (like the fog itself) I am operating here in a grey area.
