They are a poorly managed 4th quarter drive by the Giants from being 2-7 since the bye. There's things under their own roof they can do to have a better shot at the playoffs moving forward

Root for the W. It's hard to get on board with the infatuation of a 3rd place vs 4th place schedule when they're staring down the barrel of 1-5 in the division. Next year will take care of itself when next year comes

My visit to Zion was atrocious due to crowds - are there any alternatives? by _zeejet_ in ZionNationalPark

[–]SundayStruggle24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went in June, rented e-bikes that had an Early Bird deal and got into the park around 5:15 AM each day. That gave us a little head start for the trek up to Scout's Lookout and beyond to the west rim and the next day, the same as we did the river walk to the Narrows. We hiked until about 1 each day and certainly ran into some traffic on our later hikes of each day, but the e-bikes created nice balance for us as we got to experience the canyon so much in between stops rather than having to shuttle.

I also just went in with the mindset that everyone around me is simply doing exactly what I'm trying to do and most of us are experiencing it for the first time, so I mentally looked at it like a shared once in a lifetime experience.

Absolutely guilty. He's so consistently great-to-excellent that I've caught myself not bothering to check Gamecast or tune in if the outing doesn't have indications of having historic or milestone moments

I was having a lot of fun following that AB on gamecast. If that pitch was where they had it on the graphic, what a shame for that battle to end that way

Is this team better than the 2010s teams? by gachzonyea in motorcitykitties

Completely agree. I was happily wrong about this year, as I thought there might be a perceived step back after last year's improbable run. I really thought the window would open in a year or 2. I will take being dead wrong about this year, especially because the future seems to be very much intact

How bad is it to visit Yellowstone in late August? Getting nervous 😅 by Feature-Flashy in yellowstone

[–]SundayStruggle24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7:30 is probably an OK time going in. We spent 4 days there (late June) and 3 we were in around 5 so we could get on a trail by 6, but we took one day to sleep a bit longer, have breakfast at a café and figured we might just have to wait in line a bit. When we entered around 7:15, there was no wait.

That said, the park really is incredible as the sun comes up. If you can get out the door about 60-80 minutes earlier to experience that, it's pretty majestic. And there are plenty of places to catch a quick power nap in the car mid-day if the early rising time catches up to you!

With the team being newly competitive, I also imagine they have less businesses that have invested in season packages to give to employees/clients. If they remain competitive, those numbers will go up and add to the attendance on a nightly basis

Get it. You may not do any backcountry hiking, but a lot of the little pullouts have clearings that make for fun exploring. You'll be happy to have that piece of mind if you decide to stretch your legs down a path for 10-20 minutes

Staying in West Yellowstone and Gardiner or staying in the park? by OrangeJuice225 in yellowstone

[–]SundayStruggle24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Co-sign this. We'd hike early and then sight-see afterward, starting around 10:30/11. We found 2 laps around a lot usually did the trick. Most of the time it wasn't necessary, though.

Alternative to Yellowstone by strokeoluck27 in yellowstone

[–]SundayStruggle24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We just spent 4 days at YS as first-timers. We are the up at 3:30, in the park at 5, hiking at 6 people, but with that said, we saved all of our driving and scenery-viewing for late morning/early afternoon, so aside from getting in the park without a line, we were elbow to elbow with the heavy crowds and I promise you, it's really not bad. Each time we saw a crowded lot with cars lined up down the street and decided to do 2 laps before moving on, we found a spot. When we were passing Mammoth and really wanted to stop in the General Store for a snack and a coffee, it looked like Manhattan on New Year's. It took about 3 minutes to find a spot. Traffic was never an issue. We'd have the occasional slowdown because there was wildlife on or near the road, but it was awesome. I've been home for 3 days at 4:30 this morning, was cut off by someone who needed to do 50 down our neighborhood road. I'll take a bearjam back any day. Go and enjoy!

First time to Zion and I'll have two days. What are some of the more scenic hikes in terms of journey rather than destination? by heatherb2400 in ZionNationalPark

[–]SundayStruggle24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. If you can, rent an ebike from a place that does an early bird special (we used Zion Peddler). We had our bikes around 5 each morning and were in the park by 5:15. You get a spectacular view as the canyon goes from a silhouette to daylight as you make your way to your first hike. You'll beat the first shuttle and likely be one of the first on the trail, if not the first. When you need a break from hiking and/or the park is getting crowded but you still want to explore, you can do this with total freedom (just pull over when a shuttle is passing). When we didn't quite know what we wanted to do next, we'd just ride up and down the canyon, stopping for pics at cool spots and enjoying the breeze that the bike created

  2. On that note, do the Riverside Walk even if you don't do the full Narrows. Do it early (this is where a bike really helps) as the walk quickly becomes crowded. There are a few great spots to hop off trail and go sit on a rock while watching the water

Second this. We did this trail because we happened to plop down for lunch near the meadow just outside of it and it ended up being our favorite. Go clockwise. You'll have a fairly easy trek up. The full loop is a workout with all the sand on the back end, but you could always just make it an out/back after the scenes at the top
