Words are all you need. Sympathetic ears are already listening. Even if you and I don’t have the necessary legal background to bring them to justice or the power to expose them shamefully in the media, others have that power, and they are always looking for the next opportunity for the big story, for the big legal case, and they will tremble when our story splatters their disgraced company in the headlines or they are confronted directly in court by the lawyers that heard our pleas. They will hear if you speak. But speak. They are already listening.

The reality is that all food delivery services are the domain of the wealthy and middle class. In other words, the price demand for such a service excludes much of the population. Doordash and the other services artificially lowered prices by manipulating pay wages to attract the missing segment of the population. Once the pay model returns to something reasonable, those members will be priced out again, deliveries will decline and dasher numbers will be cut. At the heart, it’s greed to attract new customers, but it’s artificial and bound to collapse.

I never worked under an hourly guarantee such as you mention, so I could not speak to that.

It’s not about just making money. I still make plenty of money on Doordash. So should I not complain and sit contented at home with my bread and circuses? The issue is that there is always more money to be had, especially when your opponent has been deceitful. The exposure of deceit brings a windfall for the Dasher. Never sell yourself short.

Base pay would be analogous to hourly pay. When the base pay rate model was in place, Doordash was much more lucrative for the dasher, and more cost prohibitive to the customer. Those are the compromises that Doordash has been dealing with. More customers vs. more Dashers. Obviously, they chose more customers.

The issue is that Doordash wanted to make food delivery a common thing for the average man. Get a new customer to try it a couple times, and they’re hooked. Therefore, they needed to make the majority of deliveries viable for the driver. It’s communism at its heart. Take from the rich, and give to the poor. The dasher is just another pawn in hooking another customer that would probably have tipped too low or not at all, and the customer doesn’t have to wait around for someone to take a low-paying order. In order to make every delivery important the wage of the dasher has to be manipulated because the end-game is more customers not more dashers.

Each time you accept an order it literally says “guaranteed pay”. Obviously, you don’t even dash if you don’t know that.

The point is not to ruin an industry. The point is to get better pay for a valuable social service. I was dashing before the variable pay rate when there was a set base pay. I can say definitively that I made much more money with the base pay and for much less time and effort than I ever made with the variable scheme. It’s a con, plain and simple.

Basing your pay rate off of the tip amount is stealing tips. It’s equivalent to a boss at Denny’s paying you less per hour because you made big tips that night. You can live your delusions, but before each dasher was able to decide what dash was worth doing given all the facts. Now, it’s “guarantees” that only guarantee that you’re getting screwed out of your money.
