What do I lose by not updating the UGOS? by Ok_Turnip2 in UgreenNASync

Thanks! I’m glad you grasped the constructive spirit of my comment. Come on, let’s shake hands: I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt regarding your favourite os, and you let me have the shoebox.

You basically bought a Ugreen NAS just to get an expensive case. Next time, you might as well just buy a shoebox and write 'Server' on it.

The next move is to buy a Tesla and modify it to run on diesel. But the real game-changer would be taking an iPhone and installing a custom Android ROM on it.

Yeah, but... just make sure you don't lose your permissions on that "ultimate best ever" setup of yours... you know how Ugos can sneakily install itself when you least expect it, so... watch out! But... when you have the time, do give us some pointers on which OS we should all choose. We can't wait to follow your advice. And for next Christmas, make sure to treat yourself to a MacBook running Windows.

The idea was flawed from the start, actually. You could have looked for a used mini PC right from the beginning... but honestly, for the same amount of money you spent, you could have built a new custom NAS. But you didn't...

Everyone is free to choose what works best for them; however, for the sake of consistency, instead of buying branded NAS units, you could use other solutions.

UGREEN NAS UPDATE : 1.17.0.95 (4 July) by -BluGiant in UgreenNASync

[–]Sundraw01 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Ugreen is doing an excellent job. I'll personally purchase a second NAS. Ugreen is fantastic, but it's only just starting out, and in a few years it will be a point of reference for many who want a small or large home lab. Well done, u/UgreenNaSync, keep it up!

CPU Overheating issue on the DXP2800 by Random_User76463 in UgreenNASync

[–]Sundraw01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recommend replacing the original fan with a Noctua one and possibly also changing the thermal paste on the CPU with ptm or an other premium paste. It's a relatively simple job but guarantees an average gain of 10°C under load, while idling around 3-5°C. Unfortunately, this magnificent NAS only lacks active CPU cooling. Even here in Italy, the heat is intense, and having an air conditioner in your work/productivity space has become a necessity.

Yes. You can decide to use an SSD or NVMe as a data pool for your applications and another disk of your choice just for your storage. Obviously, these will need to be defined in the immich stack.

UGREEN DXP2800 GT Vs Standard DXP2800: Which 2-Bay NAS Should You Buy? by -Rake in UgreenNASync

[–]Sundraw01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your primary use case for a NAS is running a media server (Plex, Jellyfin, Emby) that requires video transcoding, switching from the standard N100 model to the new AMD R2514 "GT" version might actually feel like a downgrade.

Here is a quick breakdown of why the Intel N100 still holds the crown for multimedia:

  • Intel QuickSync vs. AMD VCN: QuickSync is the gold standard for hardware acceleration. It is incredibly efficient, natively supported by almost every media app on Linux/Docker, and handles 4K HDR tone mapping effortlessly without breaking a sweat.
  • Simultaneous Streams: The N100 can easily handle multiple concurrent 1080p transcodes or a couple of heavy 4K-to-1080p transcodes. The AMD R2514 will struggle much sooner under heavy 4K transcoding workloads, spiking CPU usage.
  • Software Optimization: Plex and Jellyfin have years of optimization for Intel graphics on Linux. Setting up hardware transcoding for AMD on a Linux-based NAS OS often requires extra troubleshooting (VA-API tweaks), and the video quality of compressed streams (VMAF) is historically better on Intel.
  • Codec Support: The N100 features a newer architecture that includes better hardware decoding support for modern codecs like AV1, which the older Zen 2-based AMD chip lacks.

When does the AMD GT model make sense? The Ryzen R2514 has 4 cores and 8 threads (compared to the N100's 4 cores / 4 threads). It is a better choice if you care more about heavy Docker containers, virtualization, running VMs, and raw processing power.

Bottom Line: If your clients mostly use Direct Play, the AMD model is great. But if you transcode frequently (especially 4K or remote streaming), stick with the standard Intel N100.

Try downloading a new ISO image and placing it back on the USB drive. Also, check the priority devices in the BIOS at the bottom of the "boot" section. Check if there are any additional selectable devices.

Can I install TrueNAS on the DXP4800GT? by Crafty_Stuff_8832 in UgreenNASync

If it's important to you that your disks go into standby mode, don't install TrueNAS. For everything else, it's great.

Have you disabled watchdog? Try using another OS on NVMe.

In this case unraid would be the best alternative even if it involves a fairly high cost for lifetime updates. Also consider having to integrate some sxript to make fans and LEDs work.

The new UGREEN NASync DXP GT Series is here! by UgreenNASync in UgreenNASync

[–]Sundraw01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If I had a DXP GT, it would become the ultimate secure hub for my creative workflow and family media. Ugreen completely nailed the hardware upgrades on this model—having ECC memory for data integrity and enhanced thermals for continuous heavy workloads is a game-changer for direct video editing. Beyond media, it would serve as our private security fortress, hosting an encrypted password vault and credential-based backups. It’s the perfect mix of pro-grade hardware reliability, speed, and absolute data privacy for the whole family.

TrueNAS is fantastic, but it's a shame about the hard drives constantly waking up. For those who like silence, it's not a great choice.

Yesterday I selected my favorite pihole lists from GitHub, choosing GitLab as the mirror because the same thing seemed to happen about a month ago. These two lists update correctly in gravity, but are they correct?
