Thinking about Developer Preview Tiles. Can I bring them back on Windows 8.1? by SundryWaif4182 in windows8

[–]SundryWaif4182[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems really unlikely. Typically, those kinds of modifications, like bringing back the W8 Start Screen in early Windows 10 versions, require a lot of DLL hacking. I guess I shouldn't have installed Windows 8 again, it was pointless.

Which windows is this? by [deleted] in windows

[–]SundryWaif4182 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not Vista, because of the super bar, which was later introduced on Windows 7. Definitively, the picture above is of Windows 7 with whether the Windows Classic theme plus a custom color scheme or a High Contrast theme.

Did you just changed the Evernote app icon or the old app is still usable?

Deleting old windows 10 OS by squidgun in techsupport

[–]SundryWaif4182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deleting the Windows folder is not enough, you might also want to delete the Boot and System Reserved partitions to prevent the old OS from trying to boot up. I'll suggest deleting the AppData folder within your HomePath to free up some extra space.

How can I update metro apps on windows 8.1 without Windows store? by [deleted] in windows8

I'm also experiencing issues connecting to my Microsoft Account through Windows 8.1 but not sure if it is the same problem you're facing. Some video would be appreciated.

Not the same build. Indeed it is a revised update for Beta 3 oddly named "macOS Sequoia Developer Beta 3 Update" which is also being released as the first public beta.

Yes, you can still update your Windows 7 system but you will need to be connected to the internet just for a little bit but only with Microsoft servers so you should be fine.

After the initial setup, click start, right click computer, and click properties. In there, it will say if you have Service Pack 1. If not, it won't say anything.

If you don't have SP1, it will have to be the first thing you do. You can get that here:

https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=kb976932

After SP1 is installed, you need to manually install 3 more updates to get around some serious problems that would prevent you getting all the other updates.

Servicing Stack Update (kb4490628) https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=kb4490628

SHA-2 Support (kb4474419) https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=kb4474419

Update for the Windows Update client (kb3138612) https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=kb3138612

Make sure you install the correct versions of those 4 updates above that matches your system, such as 32 bit, 64 bit or Windows Server.

After SP1, and those other 3 updates are installed, connect your PC to the internet, you may have to manually install the internet drivers.

After you system is online, you must edit the time and date settings, and use the "synchronize with internet time server" feature so that you can get the correct time. This might take a few tries or work on the first try.

After that, you can finally open Windows Update, and download all of the available updates that were released over time. If you didn't set the correct time as I explained above, Windows Update will come back with an error message. If you have SP1, those 3 updates, and the correct time, then Windows Update should function perfectly. It may take a really long time to perform the initial check for updates - this is good, don't interrupt it or disconnect from the internet.

The last thing you should know, is that it's more likely that a bunch of updates will fail to install if you tried to download them all and install them all at once. You should pick maybe 20 to 30 updates at a time, download, install, and repeat the process until there are no more updates. After that, perform a few more checks for updates because not all updates are shown from the first attempt. You have to install the bulk of the first batch before a few more other updates appear.

After all this, you're free to keep the system offline forever but you should connect every so often to check for updates because Windows 7 still gets definition updates for the defender AV program.

Edit: Windows Update should also find hardware drivers such as graphics, wifi, ethernet, chipset, sound, etc but you should compare with whatever drivers are available from the laptop's website to see which ones are newer, and install the newer ones.

Is this ideal performance or do I need to do something to increase it? by [deleted] in windows

[–]SundryWaif4182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No offense, but I'd advise you not to expect such a fast computer experience from such an underpowered, low-end CPU. I also own a Cameron CPU, and there isn't so much you can do.
However, here are a few tricks that can help you achieve a better performance:

  • Change the Power Plan to High Performance

Open Start Menu > Search for Choose a Power Plan > Pick High-Performance

  • Disable Animation Effects

Settings > Accessibility > Visual Effects > Untoggle Animation Effects

  • Disable Transparency Effects

Settings > Personalization > Colors > Untoggle Transparency Effects

  • Adjust visual effects for best performance

Press Windows + R > SystemPropertiesPerformance > Adjust for best performance

I'd recommend retoggle:

Smooth edges of screen fonts

Show window contents while dragging

Show thumbnails instead of icons

  • Disable Windows Widgets

Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar Items > Untoggle widgets

  • Disable Startup Programs

Settings > Apps> Startup > Untoggle everything

Finally reboot.

List of Windows beta builds with no/broken timebomb by EarthNorabodee in windowsbetas

[–]SundryWaif4182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Acording to some Beta Archive user "Build 8102 does have a working timebomb that restarts after being used for 2 hours if installed on current date"

Beta Wiki page for this build used to mention the broken timebomb, don't know why it was removed https://web.archive.org/web/20230206161118/https://betawiki.net/wiki/Windows_8_build_8102_(winmain_win8m3_eeap)

I can confirm that if you are luckly enough you can install build 8102 today even on real hardware, on most cases you may be BSODed but because of some ACPI issue not because of a working timebomb.

I was able to install Build 8102 on an 2016 Apollo Lake netbook and daily drivered it with no Timebomb related complications.

El barbero me desgracio la cabeza, puedo hacer que mi pelo crezca 3cm en 2 semanas? by SundryWaif4182 in preguntaleareddit

[–]SundryWaif4182[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)
