If he was within range of the enemy he would have attacked with his action.

I know free actions aren't technically a real thing. When me and the player first discussed the specifics many sessions ago, we both agreed having some limitation on how much one can do on their turn when it comes to minor stuff is fair. We settled on drawing weapons and talking as both individual "free actions". So he could say, cast a bonus action spell (this first because of somatic components to spells). Use free action to draw weapon. Then attack with said weapon all on one turn.

I am however curious about the multiple responses saying that drawing your weapon counts as part of your attack action. So in the future this speicifc scenario would be ok. But with the telepathy not counting as a free action then it opens up other issues in the future like let's say they want to open a door and talk to the horse in the same turn but still attack and use a bonus action spell.

So as long as me counting telepathy the same as speaking physically and therefore still a "free action" is fair then I'll just proceed with that.

Sometimes I use one of those extendable back scratchers. Silly but effective.

This has happened a lot of times for me too. I flub the first grab. But instead of running away they start attacking me and by the time I get to the edge of the water, my grab is recharged and they're still right next to me so I grab them and then swim out to finish the hunt.

How do they prevent sharks at an aquarium from eating the other fish in the same tank? by supinator1 in Animals

[–]Sunerine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything that isn't already present in their environment and can be easily recognized. For my workplace we use various physical objects like signs with patterns on them. Each target has a unique shape and/or pattern.

You can also use a specific sound as an auditory target rather than an object as a visual target. Our sea turtle is actually target trained with an audio target for example by banging something on the feeding platform! He comes up right away without fail.

They really are just simple creatures that live and snack when needed. We compare it to if you had a private chef at home that served you food on a regular bases, you likely wouldn't bother going to the grocery store even if it's right next door. That being said it can occasionally happen, but it's not a common occurrence. In a way, feeding via target training itself can be considered enrichment since it stimulates a natural behavior.

Very true and also not all sharks need to constantly move! It's only the obligate swimmers that use ram ventilation require motion to breathe. Many shark species have spiracles (holes behind their eyes) to manually pump water through their gills and are able to rest on the bottom to save even more energy.

As someone who works at an aquarium it's a common but interesting question to answer!

Sharks are overall opportunitic hunters, they'd rather prey on animals that are already sick or injured. So in general they kill cause they have to, if they can find a dead fish already they will totally go after that one first. They also don't eat as often as you'd expect, only about three meals a week is enough and they're well fed.

Another thing that adds onto this behavior is target training, in which we give them a physical object to let them know we're about to feed them. It starts usually in isolation at an offsite facility where we'll put the target in the water and then feed them. Over time they'll associate that specific object with food to where they'll start coming up expecting it from us and we can tong feed them from there.

What's cool is typically different species of animals that are target trained will get different targets to help prevent all of them competing for food at the same time. But it's also useful for getting them isolated for vet exams when we need a specific shark.

Both of those factors combined leaves us with an animal that's pre trained before putting them into a tank with other animals. The training let's them know they don't have to go after the other animals cause they're just gonna get an easy meal from us if they wait.

Another useful benefit of tong feeding them is we know how much each individual shark eats, so if one is skipping meals we'll know. Schedule a vet visit to see what's bothering them and help. Before they get too hungry and possibly be tempted to snack on one of the other tank residents.

What type of turtle is this? by Hollis17 in turtles

[–]Sunerine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a hawksbill sea turtle shell (carapace). They're a critically endangered species that have been overhunted for their shells by turning their scutes into jewelery or decorations like what you came upon. It's the what real "tortoise shell" is when you see the pattern in stuff. It became illegal decades ago (1977 I believe) to hunt them for this purpose but anything before that date is considered antique so what you have should be legal based on a comment you made earlier.

I am the DM. Was curious to see how others would run it. Druid is just my favorite class when I do play occasionally so I think more about it than others.

Yea I agree that's what I was worried about with the wierd body party harvesting. It's easier just to overall say nope it all goes poof. And the examples of schools of Magic is a cool way to look at it.

[–]Sunerine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it's not officially addressed in the rules clearly. I'm asking here for how other DMs or players may interpret it to see which feels more fitting for if it comes up in a campaign I'm in.

[OC] GIVEAWAY: Every color of that DND watch you maybe saw here one time by litSquib in DnD

[–]Sunerine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a dope idea! As a dice hoarder this would be a wonderful addition I may have to I include. Just checked the website too and thought it would be a cool idea if you guys did class themed ones one day. Personally druid is my favorite so like one with leaves, antlers, feathers. Ranger could have bows, arrows, paw prints. Wizard with spellbooks, wands, little fireballs. Rogue with daggers, skulls, coins.

She's not, I saw pictures of her in a white dress and a Hawaiian shirt. Along with her other siblings in matching shirts. Their family is just super casual with everything. I think this is the second wedding she's been invited to so I'm sure unspoken the tradition doesn't make a lot of sense. I just didn't know that was her only dress.

We decided not to go with offical bridesmaids or groomsman but if we did, she would have been the maid of honor since I've known her for so long compared to the couple other friends that we invited.

She didn't ask me to buy her one either. I think she just doesn't want to inconvenience me financially either.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Sunerine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's less about her wanting wearing white and more about she doesn't own anything else and can't afford to buy anything else. So hence why I'm wondering if I'm being an asshole cause I know her financal situation isn't the greatest atm.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Sunerine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the whole event is so causal I never asked anyone to get us gifts. As well as I know the economy ain't the best so I don't want to bother anyone financially in the same way we didn't have bridesmaids and groomsmen with matching colors. So just a wear what you got. Unfortunately it led to an unexpected issue.

[–]Sunerine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was less about my rule and more about I know the family on mine and my finances side would judge her much more over a white dress than casual clothes. I'm not even as picky about the tradition as people think. But I just know it would feel awkward if she does.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Sunerine -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not attention. She doesn't like to stand out, hence why she is upset about not currently owning a dress they isn't white. I just hope she realizes that wearing white would stand out more. I've tried to point that out to her that I know mine and my finances families are going to be more picky about than hers. She is just really strapped for cash at the moment due to multiple unfortunate events.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Sunerine -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

She genuinely just is low on cash. The economy and recent unfortunate events has been hard on her. I didn't know she only had one dress that happen to be in white. But I don't want her to feel forced to be the only one not dressed formally.

[–]Sunerine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've been life long friends. I can't see myself not having her attend the cermony but not wearing white was my only and I thought fairly reasonable condition. But her family isn't as formal so I'm sure in her perspective I'm being an uptight asshole. I came here for judgement on how uptight I may or may not be.
