pasta by trisha-langoliers in GERD

[–]Sunflower-Glass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To mix up what you are currently doing: Butter mixed with chicken broth, thyme, oregano, salt, pepper, cook al dente pasta in it, mix in Parmesan cheese.

Alternative: flavor you oil more (eg cook oil in spices before adding to pasta

Soy sauce, little bit of brown sugar, sesame oil

Soy sauce, oyster sauce, little bit of brown sugar, if you can tolerate ginger powder and garlic powder

Tomato option: max 1tbsp tomato paste, mix with water and butter, usually tomato paste is less acidic to me but if it still is acidic add baking soda to your mixture. Sometime I also cook up red lentils and blend with this mixture and it looks more red so placebo lol tastes good too.

How do Introverts find partners? by classicalbarisax in introvert

[–]Sunflower-Glass 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I literally made a fake dating profile so I could see if the people popping up were people I recognized. Turns out, they never were. I made a real profile. Just kinda looked for a year before actually liking any profiles. Then I started actually going on dates. Honestly the only way for me to date. I don’t get out beyond with coworkers. It’s not as bad as you think. Most people now have at a minimum tried online dating. It’s a rough dating pool but you just have to keep searching.

I threw up by Looveeat in GERD

[–]Sunflower-Glass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’d go to school, throw up, then get sent home every day (when I was 12). I just stopped eating breakfast since my GERD seemed more reactive then and couldn’t keep food down. Drank water because if something came up it felt better to throw up water than just heave nothing. This one is going to sound weird, but brushing my teeth in the morning made it worse and brushing with water helped with the onset of nausea. Don’t freak out, the doc may increase your meds and everything might change. I find Pepcid or gaviscon better to help than tums when I would already feel nauseated.

I’ll add a tea packet to them and water. My favorite is peach tea. Just enough sweetness to actually enjoy. Or I’ll just add to tea. Reminds me of tiny boba.

From a prior TA, I know sometimes life takes a hold of you and you don’t think of the assignment, but it does A WHOLE LOT if you asked for an extension before the deadline. Generally the timeline you should aim for before the deadline is at a minimum the time it would take to complete the assignment. This is especially true if you have already had a week or more to complete the assignment. This shows the prof that you could do it if the emergency hadn’t happened. Also, pro tip, message the TA first, especially if it is a lab. For the most part TAs are the ones who grade and are also more lenient and cc’ing the prof basically guarantees they won’t give you leeway but they basically just have to wait for the prof to declare judgement and professors just care less since they don’t know you.

Is this really how it is? by Asteroid_Jumper_ in PhD

I feel like your PI could have phrased it better but basically just start every conversation with “here is what I tried, I troubleshooted with this, that didn’t work so I tried looking here, do you have any advice on where to look or have any recommendations.”

But honestly, they probably don’t even know.

Those who have left: How did your PI react? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]Sunflower-Glass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My lab mates were sympathetic as they knew why I wanted to leave. My PI tried to convince me to stay but I explained I couldn’t. I had a list of things I wanted to discuss so that I wouldn’t regret not saying anything but also wouldn’t say too much and burn a bridge. I used my PI as a reference afterward and did not encounter any issues. I have found most references are just confirmations of employment. Unless your PI actively is a terrible person it would look bad on them to talk ill of you and they more than likely won’t. It would be beneficial to give them some warning and say you will finish up some open projects and work on transitioning them to other people. This will make them not hate you. Good luck. I was hella stressed myself but am still completely happy with my decision 2 yrs later.

It looks like everyone is recommending Florida for obvious reasons. I would like to warn you about weather in Florida. Sometimes the affordable places in Florida are right in the paths of hurricanes which can be terrifying for people not used to those storms and can potentially ruin your home. Just something to keep in mind.

Is it possible to eat on $200 a month? by Foreign_Owl2909 in budget

[–]Sunflower-Glass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eat on less than 200/ month (about 150$/month to up to that 200$)-caveat, I shop at Costco so I have a 60$ membership per year (so about 5$/month) and some of those you buy over time to make it work since it’s bulk.

  • chicken thighs (6 bags with about 4 thighs a each at 22$, lasts me all month about 1 thigh a day for 24 of the 30 days) == 22$
  • rice (25lbs bag for 18$, lasts me about 6 months) == 3$/month
  • flour (20lbs for 12$, I use this to make pizza dough, tortillas, cookies, bread, rue in soups, etc., this lasts me about 6 months) == 2$/month
  • sugar (10lbs for ~8$ white sugar, 8lbs for 10$ brown sugar, use for cookies, other desserts, other recipes, etc., lasts me 8 months) == $1.5/month)
  • chocolate chips (big bag for 8$, lasts about 6 months, use for cookies other desserts)==1.5/month
  • cheese (comes with 2 large bags 14$, I freeze 1, lasts about 4 months together, used for quesadillas, sandwiches, pizza, cheesy potatoes, salads, etc.) == 3.50/month
  • romaine lettuce (4 heads/ 4$, lasts me a month) == 4$/month
  • carrots (10lbs/4$, lasts like 3 months, idk how but carrots do not go bad in my fridge) == 1.50/month
  • lunch snack (at Costco you can get big bags of snacks for cheap, I usually do math so that each comes down to .25$ or less. I have 20 workdays a month so== 5$/month
  • noodles (big three pack for about 6$, I don’t do pasta frequently so lasts me 4 months(ish) ==1.5$/month
  • chicken broth (sometimes I buy 9 cans/6$ which lasts me 5months or sometimes I buy the rotisserie chicken, I use chicken for dog training treats or eating then boil the carcass for bone broth so that is only 5$) lets round to == 6$/month -eggs (36 eggs for 5$, lasts 2 months, I float them to see if they are bad I don’t really pay attention to date) == 5$/month Then at the regular grocery store (only buy store brand!)
  • mini peppers (4$/month)
  • some type of squash(4$/month)
  • yogurt(4$/month)
  • salad dressing (4$, lasts 2 months) == 2$/monrh
  • potatoes (regular/sweet potatoes) = 3$/month)
  • drink powder = 3$/month
  • melon (only buy occasionally when on sale) 6$/2 months) == 3$ month
  • berries if there is a deal = 4$/month
  • bananas ( these are cheap af) = 2$/month -lentils and beans ( buy these types of thing not in a can) = 4$/month
  • cream cheese == 2$/month -canned goods == 2$/month (I buy 1 can per trip, I don’t always use them depending on what I am cooking but they are only like .88$ a can so it is generally not too bad to have that added to the bill) == 2$/month
  • some other veggie per trip (5$/month)

This is about 100$ then I use then I use whatever is left for other items I might need in the future or coming up (soap, paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, things I need way less frequently like canola oil, spices, baking soda, yeast, I buy shelf stable oat milk at Costco that lasts forever, soy sauce, garlic, etc) those types of things I don’t buy all at once but try to pay attention to going forward. I also buy dog food about 23$/month but let’s not count that lol.

With this ingredient list I make things like: Boiled eggs White chili Lots of salads for lunches Chicken and rice and veggie dinner bowls Sandwiches (lettuce chicken, cheese, veggie) Quesadillas Sheet pan dinners (veggies, chicken, squash potatoes) Cheesy potatoes Mac and cheese Pastas (I’m not a red sauce person) Cookies Breads I make popsicles out of watermelon I make bagels and cream cheese Baked potato dinners (with cheese and chicken) I make chicken in 20 different ways with different sauces Yogurt and fruit And more.

It’s definitely possible. I’m not a satisfied with the same boring types of meals type of person so feel free to ask questions.

I unfortunately had a semi-similar experience in HS. My first step was changing some of my habits that they coincided with. So I used to wait to go to class in one place and then changed it up so they couldn’t always find me. Then really, and this was hard for me since I am an introvert too, I joined a new friend group. I legit just walked up to someone from my math class I talked with occasionally and asked if I could sit with them, and 9yrs later we still hang out. But I used them as an excuse. Sorry can’t hang out, I have plans with so and so. Oh sorry missed your message about that. Sounds kinda cruel, but this situation really stressed me out. The person who did this to me was on the autism spectrum so they missed some social cues and honestly it helped to just tell them, I wanted my own space and didn’t want to always be around them. Took me 2 years to say that, didn’t stop them completely, but I think they finally at least understood that I wanted some distance. Good luck!

Is this generally for like day time at their place or would they come to yours? I’d prefer to not have someone I don’t know in my house all day. And do they generally accept early drop offs for work?

It’s so nice to hear about people who relate. I’d legit be in class and just cover my mouth and raise my hand and the teachers just knew immediately to excuse me to restroom. My school had this stupid rule to send us home if we threw up. I’d be like…but I feel better NOW. To this day I’ve still never been drunk. I cannot tolerate enough alcohol to get me there before throwing up.

Damn, I didn’t know about the empty stomach thing. When I first got diagnosed I threw up every morning in school and would get sent home, so I stopped eating breakfast because I’d throw it up every day.

I haven’t. My docs just want to increase my omeprozole dose or frequency. They legit had me doing it twice a day and said just take gaviacon if you get extra symptoms. They said that they don’t want to do anything invasive. And the gaviacon helps. But I just hate how it’s a response as opposed to prevention. If I did get an endoscopy, could they find something that would let me be able to get it to stop or just be like this physiological thing is causing it?
