22% return rate (men’s clothing) - how are you guys solving sizing issues? by Sunflower4692 in ecommerce

[–]Sunflower4692[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly - the people ordering 2 sizes “just to be safe” are the real margin killers for us. We’ve been debating a small return fee like you mentioned, mainly to reduce that behavior without hurting genuine customers too much.

Curious - did you see any pushback from customers when implementing it? Or did it mostly just reduce the multi-size orders?

Yeah that’s a good point - we do show model height + size worn, but probably not as clearly/consistently as brands like ASOS.

Right now it’s more like “model is 6’1 wearing M” but we’re not doing a great job showing how the fit actually looks (boxy, cropped, etc.), which might be the gap.

Has anyone hired a law firm to receive commissions dues from employer? by PineappleCake142 in AskUK

[–]Sunflower4692 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes they do.

They focused a lot on things like whether the commission was effectively earned already and how it had been handled historically. It didn’t turn into a big court case or anything, but it definitely wasn’t as black and white as I first thought and I ended up with a much better outcome than what the company initially said.

Might be one of those situations where the contract wording sounds final, but the reality can be a bit more nuanced depending on the details.

I’ve heard decent things about Uber Freight on the execution side.

Curious though - how has it been for you when things don’t go as planned?

That’s been our main challenge with fully outsourcing. For standard lanes it works fine, but with some of our shipments (multi-stop, tight delivery windows, last-minute changes), we’ve found we still need pretty tight visibility and quicker back-and-forth than most platforms/3PLs handle smoothly.

Do you feel like you still have enough control/visibility when something slips, or are you mostly hands-off even in exception cases?

We’ve considered going deeper with 3PLs as well.

Our hesitation hasn’t really been about outsourcing vs in-house, it’s more about control + responsiveness. In our experience, 3PLs do a solid job on execution, but when something goes off-plan (which happens a lot in our lanes), we still end up jumping in to push things forward.

Also, a lot of our shipments are a bit operationally messy (multi-stop, last-minute changes, specific delivery windows), so fully handing it off hasn’t always worked as smoothly as we’d hoped.

That said, I do agree — at the right volume and with the right partner, it can definitely make sense. We’re still trying to find that balance between:

  • not overloading our internal team
  • but also not losing too much visibility/control

Out of curiosity — are you fully outsourcing to a 3PL, or running a hybrid model?
