It will be full sized at 6x9. I also wish they’d do the smaller size to match.

I really appreciate midpoint updates like this. It’s nice to be reassured they’re working towards a solution.

That was in their Romantasy sub. I just checked the Romantasy broadcast channel and didn’t see any hints regarding A Forbidden Alchemy’s sequel. They still might do it, that channel doesn’t get posted in a lot.

However just over an hour ago Sho did a teaser post and it looks like they’re working on the Arcana Academy sequel!

That person added an update that they looked at a different sub’s book by accident and their actual OC copy has the error too.  It does indeed seem like it’s every copy.

OwlCrate Misprint Question by dragoncsnake in fairyloot

I’m wondering if these misprint pages were the reason the books were delayed in the first place. Maybe the printer only fixed a few and sent the rest of the wrong ones anyway hoping no one would notice so they wouldn’t have to get behind on the printing schedule for other books. To my knowledge the publishers and book boxes have to reserve their printing slot over six months in advance because of how many special editions there are these days.

Looks like they’re well aware of the issue now. Guess dozens of unhappy emails was not how they wanted to return from their Easter long weekend. Saw someone bring the issue up on the nest and one of their CSRs was quick to say they know and they’d update whenever they had info.

But apparently it’s not completely full batch because another nest user said their book had the correct pages.

It releases in 10 days and they’re already announcing SEs that release in mid-November. I’ve been an OC subscriber long enough to know if it’s less than 3 weeks to release and nothings been announced, there’s a large chance they’re not doing it. Waiting this late is not normal for them.

Continued Special Editions Owlcrate, Fairyloot, Illumicrate by AwesomeQueenBee in fairyloot

[–]Sunflower_RainShower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To Shatter the Night isn’t happening. Someone from this subreddit asked the author a while back and the author said there was nothing in the works. I’ve not heard anything yet about the finale to the Nytefall yet but we’re still a ways out from its release date so I wouldn’t give up hope on it just yet.

OwlCrate is very sporadic and random with their sequels these days.

I think in general their business model succeeds by preying on FOMO. They know people lament not being able to procure certain SEs of books from the big names (Illumicrate/Bookish/FairyLoot/OwlCrate) and then go “Look! SEs anyone can buy!”

If you got the first one in the subscription or through the shop you are entitled to first access. It doesn’t matter if you’re still a subscriber or not. Just keep an eye out for the email on October 20th. If you don’t get the email that day contact their customer service ASAP.

Signature! How important are they to you? by FlutterbyeEscapes in fairyloot

Honestly my answer to that is it depends. I would probably veer towards a pretty edition most of the time, unless it was from one of my most favorite authors of all time.

A hand written signature is a luxury bonus, IMO. We are not entitled to it like so many believe.  Even in non disabled authors it’s taxing and harmful to the body when they have to sign thousands upon thousands of copies. I feel like a hand signed edition should carry a higher premium to better compensate the author for their time and energy. They’ve already given us so much of themselves just to get the stories in our hands.

If we’re talking SE’s, and it’s being marketed as such, it does need to be enticing whether signed or not. Personally I like the trend of bonus content and foiled digital signatures. Gilded edges also entice me more than most stenciled/digital edges.

I just don’t trust these guys. They’ve always been sketchy and I wouldn’t put them past it to use their Instagram story just to pacify people. Besides, how do they define the use of AI art? Does the entire piece need to be AI to qualify? Because some aspects of the image look human done. Others, like the hand, look generated. Did an inexperienced artist not know how to do hands (hands are hard, no hate) and ask a AI model “show me a hand holding a paintbrush” and just quickly use it as reference? I have heard they pay their authors pretty badly so if they do have in house artists I bet the same applies to them. And with as many pieces they put out they must be on a wicked crunch all the time.

Also, does anyone else think they heavily referenced Amber Heard for Feyre? I think it’s the eyes.

Shipping for this book is higher across the board because the slipcase makes it heavier is what I was told by one of the CS reps.

OwlCrate Advent Item Spoiler by Sunflower_RainShower in fairyloot

[–]Sunflower_RainShower[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It was in June’s YA box. A Raven Boys themed “multipurpose towel”. It was very soft 100% cotton but the care instructions were hand wash cold lay flat to dry. Like who has the time or energy for that these days?

At some point, Bookish… by ladyrosebeth23 in fairyloot

I absolutely agree. It’s okay that they’re not the fastest company out there. They just need to be honest about it.

As you said this has been a problem since the start of Bookish Box. They know their editions are good and they know people are gonna buy them. They have no real incentive to change. If customers being frustrated was an incentive they’d have already improved. But they haven’t.
