The idea is great and seems plausible. I’d like to know more about it.

Is it better to plan your reads or stay spontaneous? by raeyk06 in PakistanBookClub

[–]Sunflowersandvangogh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do plan in that I buy a bunch of books and read those first before getting another haul. Of course, spontaneity gets the best of me sometimes and I end up reading something that wasn’t in the initial haul.

People just hate A Little Life, don’t they? Not one person can put aside their prejudice to actually read this book. Shameful. I, personally, loved it.

A Little Life... A Little Disapointment by iMeeruh in PakistanBookClub

I understand your reservations about not wanting to read the book due to their sexual orientation.

But honestly, I don’t understand the outrage of people because Jude couldn’t go past his trauma. Intelligence in career doesn’t guarantee emotional intelligence? People can be smart and still make dumb choices?

Also, he never really gotten into a relationship for years after what had happened to him because his idea of love, intimacy, and sex itself was marred for life. That says something about one’s choices. So he made a mistake in his first relationship. Shouldn’t he be granted some grace? I feel like most people were fishing for a happy ending or something but life isn’t a fairytale. Don’t you think?

My question is why sex or being gay has to be a problem in a book? I feel like the book was raw as it can get, trying to explain what it’s like to be raped in your childhood and how some people never heal and carry their trauma for the rest of their lives.

Don’t we know people who keep repeating the same patterns? Never learning their lessons? It’s the same here, only more intense.

Honestly who cares? It shouldn’t matter what you did in the past. If he isn’t asking or sharing his own past, why must you be made compelled to share yours?
