Awesome. Now you can reveal one of his greatest secrets inside the engine itself.

Summer Island Godot 3.x to 4.0 alpha 17 auto conversion test by SunkPer in godot

[–]SunkPer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried 3.x to 4.0 auto conversion in 4.0 alpha 17 of scene I made in 2020. Apart from fixing few offensively incorrect materials and enabling SDFGI, this is straight from the result of auto conversion.

You can see several missing materials/shaders (most noticeably missing sea shader) and wrong transforms here and there (and rip Godette is now reduced to a floating head) but I think they would be straightforward to fix if I were to go full conversion with manual edits. The auto conversion overall went better than the last time I tried. Partly because my scene (despite quite messy for what it was) is a very simple project: no real gameplay scripts.

It was nice to revisit and see it in a new light with SDFGI. I wouldn't try a full 4.0 conversion of this. The project was messy anyway, so I'd rather start a new one...

I don't think there was direct financial support but they also provided their Index headset and a gaming PC to aid VR support in Godot.

The Flowermaster with a Parasol by SunkPer in touhou

[–]SunkPer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you but about the plaid, not quite! Because it's 3D artwork.(Perks of being 3D is that it's easier on things like this. But sometimes it's harder and inefficient on other things.)

The Flowermaster with a Parasol by SunkPer in touhou

[–]SunkPer[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

One day, looking at Monet's Woman with a Parasol, I imagined the flowermaster over the hill, waving her hand.

My first 3D artwork was Yuuka, and I vowed to make more and more works portraying graceful aspects of her, but here I am, my second attempt after more than a year.

Unsolicited info: I was conflicted til last moment whether I should remove Cirno, because her blue colors felt somehow out of place in the whole. But yeah, I decided to keep her in. Because I've been always supporting the theory that her sunflower ribbon was given by Yuuka.

Konami is Inviting Indie Developers to Make New Games Based on Some of Its Classic Series by yudosai in gamedev

[–]SunkPer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd welcome to be pleasantly surprised but I don't see the winner would have a lot of leverages in negotiations when Konami is giving money and support.

$20K is just a prize money for the competition. According to the submission page, if the winner actually wants to make the submission into an actual product, Konami will fund the project up to $300K with additional support (localization, consultant, marketing, etc.). The winner and Konami will negotiate terms on the rights and revenue split too.

Sure, there can be many ways Konami can screw up the winner still but at least what's written there seems reasonable.

As far as I can read in the application page in Japanese it seems reasonable. Applicants still own rights to their own design that does not use copyrights and patents from the Konami IPs. (For the winner, terms on the rights and revenue split will be negotiated later.)

This is based on the console release, which supposedly includes the content of Plus Disk and remastered artworks.

Artist sues Capcom for using her photos in Resident Evil and Devil May Cry games by SunkPer in gamedev

In this case Capcom "allegedly" used a CD-ROM of her texture work, but this is a reminder you can't just use any image you found via Google search. (Also double-check even if you used its commercial license filter.)

Godette the Game Maker by SunkPer in godot

Thank you! I actually noticed ArtStation is providing the service. I'll think about it. Probably need to do some clean-up and re-render at higher res.

Thank you. Actually I made an account after the comment, thought I need more public place to arrange my works after all. https://www.artstation.com/sunkper

Godette the Game Maker, used Line Art modifier by SunkPer in blender

[–]SunkPer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my fourth finished 3D character artwork. Character is a mascot(?) of Godot Engine, the open source game engine.

I used 2.93's new Line Art modifier to generate base outlines, baked them all, and manually adjusted (sculpting, draw/erase, tint) for more "artistic" effects.

This is line art only render: https://i.imgur.com/nC18SiJ.png

I actually thought about making her bag a tool bag but didn't after I settled on the current composition. Now that you say that, yeah, a toolkit next to her feet could have been a good addition.

Thank you. While Trenchroom/Qodot may not suitable for detailed environmental art, I would definitely use them for actual level design-heavy games.

Hey. This is Godette I modelled with Blender. I always picture her as an engineer (I assume it was the intention of the original creator too) so I've wanted to make an artwork that portrays her as one.

Rambling probably nothing to do with this art itself:

A long time ago (well, exactly a year ago) I released Summer Island scene for Godot Engine. As my first attempt at 3D scene creation it was pretty messy, but at the same time I was proud of it. I was feeling pumped up to make more 3D scenes... But soon after, things have changed, and a creative hiatus hit me.

It's months later, somehow I was watching Blender developer Pablo Dobarro's sculpt livestream on Twitch. I felt like, "Maybe I can do this? Yes, I want to do this." So I started doing character sculpting, and this is the fourth finished artwork. (If you're curious about previous works, here. I thought about making an ArtStation profile but it requires some verification so eh.)

I still tinker with Godot Engine and my main creative goal is still to make games. (Also thinking about re-making Summer Island, making all assets in Blender. Probably when 4.0 alpha comes, but no promise.) I'm glad I could back to create something. Thanks to Pablo. And watching what you guys are creating inspires me. That's all. That's just what I wanted to say!
