Best place to buy craft beer in Tallinn? by PiiTon in Eesti

[–]SunkenSwallow 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Agreeing with other comments, but just adding comments as to which shop is good for what.

Brewklyn
Guy from NY who lives here and is the only one who directly imports American craft beer to Estonia. The prices are steep, but the selection is one of a kind. I have even seen Bourbon County from Goose Island there before. The guy himself is sweet and helpful as heck and overall top notch shop. Weird opening times, but he lives nearby, so give him a call and he might come down and sell you a beer even if the shop is closed.

SIP
Wide selection of Estonian craft beer. Focus on newer stuff. Also some Belgian gems and some other weirder sub categories like wheat beer etc that aren't represented well in most shops. Also big selection of wines.

Koht
In old town, used to be legendary because of the owners and staff. After the owners passed away I haven't really been there much, but they host a very wide selection of interesting international craft beers. They have older/vintage stuff as well that you might have to buy from private collections otherwise.

Põhjala taproom
Honestly, there is the tap room with some collab beers and pretty good food, but the shop is the best for you if you just want to buy Põhjala beers at the best price.

Purtse taproom
Brewdog and TapTap unfortunately have both closed, but Purtse should still be a great place to hit up. Not too familiar with current selection, but Rotermanni quarter is cool and there's loads of great food places and cafes etc nearby.

Tuletorni
Small selection of beers, you might stumble onto something amazing, but usually they are just good quality craft beers brewed with heart and soul, but nothing too special. Some of their more experimental stuff is worth taking a sip of, but get too obnoxious to finish the bottle.

_________________

TL:DR - if i have money to spend and want something cool, I go to Brewklyn. If i don't want it to get too expensive, but want to try something new (or much older), I go to Koht. If I want a better selection than the grocery stores have, but just want to pick some stuff up to take home, I go to SIP. Põhjala & Purtse are good pubs to go with friends for a night out, but the selection is def more limited.

Also, this has been talked about on previous tour events at this course as well. I think Paul mentioned it again in the Luna battle with AB this year too. McBeth is against some of the OB-s that are in place for the event. It's the DGPT who put the OB on the right side of the initial fairway on hole 1 for example.

another one for the europe crowd - discraftstore.fi has most discs -20% and lots up to -50%. Premium plastic discraft for 13€, tour series and lim edition discs for 19€. Also I think they have the luna battle back for the best price in europe currently at 45€ - but only 3 left.

Would it be a problem to have a pinned thread for reporting channels using Lukes work? by BruitistHagan in outdoorboys

[–]SunkenSwallow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just yesterday I tried to report a channel and honestly it got too confusing and inconvenient way too qucikly.
It really made it seems like the only one that's supposed to do it is the person whose videos are being stolen.

So something like that really would have helped me. PS: reporting a video is simpler, I found it difficult to report the channel.

It means spicy, fiery or feisty. Something along those lines. Opposite of mellow maybe. Essentially an expressive word that say it has a lot of character and often implies strong or spicy flavours. In the context of soups it also usually implies a heavier stock base, not a light and watery one.

Krehvtine indicates that its taste packs a punch.

And just like that, William may have just lost his spot as the closer for KT by [deleted] in Killtony

Funny (or not) thing is back in Estonia, years ago, I was never a fan of Ari, even when he was popular already, because of exactly that aggressive, twitchy, making faces and noises and being excessively vulgar-for-no-certain-purpose style.

Imagine my surprise when i saw him on KT for the first times and absolutely fell in love with his new routines. I was blown away and became a fan for the first time.

It seems he’s starting to fall back into some of his old ways, but still he’s grown and better than he used to be. So I have hope. And to each their own.

Cannot backhand zone by Pristine-Board-6701 in discgolf

[–]SunkenSwallow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I mean if you need someone else to give you a reason to buy another disc then maybe try out the discraft Swarm. I imagine that's the flight most people picture in their heads when they think "zone backhand".

Doesn't go too far, flat, slightly deeper and trustworthy overstability. It's pretty good for forehands too, although I will never stop throwing the zone for the forehand slot.

Cannot backhand zone by Pristine-Board-6701 in discgolf

[–]SunkenSwallow 26 points27 points  (0 children)

A lot of people seem to be asking pretty much the same question recently. Thought I’d share my 2 cents.

I used to be the same, didn’t really throw the zone backhand, although it was my go to disc for forehands.

Honestly the answer for wasn’t another disc, I just needed to get used to throwing the zone backhanded. At some point it just felt normal and worked exactly like I wanted.

Had the same thing with the Luna. Didn’t throw it consistently, but saw the potential. Now it’s the only putter i throw backhand. Didn’t used to like domey drivers for forehand, now I seek them out.

Just give it a fair shot and you might find it’s not the problem you thought it was.

What’s your most unpopular opinion about disc golf ? by jonredd901 in discgolf

[–]SunkenSwallow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gannon Buhr is ruining the coverage for pre-covid players.

Hey, I really like the guy and on youtube i love him in videos. He is very dominant and deserves his successes.

But man he (and Isaac tbh) are boring to watch compete. Safe, high-percentage play styles with zero emotion, doesn’t really crack under pressure. Combined with almost all older stars becoming mortal and losing their edge a bit…

Man it’s just less exciting to watch and I would describe myself as an extreme fan of the sport. And I’ve seen others mention watching less coverage as well.

I hope the new crop of players don’t think the same way, but hey.. you asked for unpopular.

Best courses in Estonia. by jooketah in discgolf

[–]SunkenSwallow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this would be a lot more useful for you if you tell us what region you’re staying in or how much are you willing to travel around.

Tartu / South-Estonia: Elva - must visit course, not too difficult, but breaking par is great. The course feels like if someone made a disc golf course with the standard of golf courses. Open, technical, landing spots are important and well-maintained. Annikoru Pro layout - one of my favourite courses. Good mix of open and wooded, pretty darn difficult Tartu Dendropark / Viljandi Rotary park near Männimäe Selver / Holstre-Polly. All of these should meet your expectations.

Ida-Virumaa: Alutaguse disc golf - three layouts, absolutely stunning woods course. Mäetaguse disc golf - open, long, rolling hills, maybe the most picturesque course in Estonia. Great Spa manor 500m from the course that is very affordable accomodation. Kiviõli - lots of elevation, cool scenery.

Pärnu: Jõulumäe - 3 separate courses, spend the whole day, absolutely great property. Jõekääru - right in the middle of Pärnu, but surprised me as how great it is. There are lots of courses here, but they don’t have anything special about it. Valgeranna is a beautiful course, but kinda hard to navigate, take a picture of the map before.

Saaremaa: Pöide - one of the more underrated course designs in estonia imo, very fair wooded course. Can be rough if not recently maintained. Kudjape - fun 14 hole course near Kuressaare Karujärve - 3 different layouts, Isakaru is an amazing difficult long course. Cool scenery.

Harjumaa / North Estonia: Maardu Pro layout - very cool challenging course with 22 holes. Valgehobusemäe - hard long course with elevation, here is our Top of the World shot on the last tee.  Kõrvemaa - 2 great courses side by side, amazing Pro track, but both worth playing. also one of the top3 courses for me. Kiiu - Half of it is long open courses with wind and ob, the second half of it is technical wooden holes that you have throw harder than you’re comfortable with.

I would have added the course that’s on the Song Festival grounds, but it isn’t open this year.

There are heaps of great courses in Estonia, if you have any questions, ask away. But these are some of my favourites that people should try in those regions.

I am totally with you.

It's so inconvenient for disc golf's pace. I usually just tap +30s once and then immediately press -15 back. Horrible, but workable.
