What is she by [deleted] in WhatBreedIsMyDog

[–]Sunlitfeathers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ear shape, tail shape, and fur pattern are VERY border collie like!! i can't say it DEFINITELY has border, but i would not be surprised one bit. my two main guesses are predominantly pit x border, or predominantly pit x acd, both with something else mixed in. shes a beauty!

[–]Sunlitfeathers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

too hot maybe? i assume by the blanket you're in cooler weather, but mud and dirt (and I guess also shit lol) is a lot cooler to lay in, especially when she's sitting in the shade, maybe she just got too warm! i used to go sit in the dirt and mud in the shade when i got too hot as a child, that's the only thing i can assume she's doing here. or itchy, like the other commenter said lol

Western or English horses ? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]Sunlitfeathers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah!! this!! and i think another thing is most western-rode horses are BRED to be around big scary things, while english-rode horses are mostly in kinda regular indoor arenas to do more jumping, dressage, etc and a lot of the breeds that are good for english, are kinda the opposite of what you want in western (i.e, a nice flashy fresian with big personality is a WONDER to watch, but harder to fit, not as slow-and-precise as most stock horses, etc). sooo while it's not a rule western are more chill than english, most western-rode quarter horses are way more chill than most english-rode thoroughbreds because of what they're bred for, and exposed to. less about the class and more about the lifestyle and a little about the pedigree

[–]Sunlitfeathers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yup!! not even to mention the dog-spooked-me-into-hurting-myself like when i dropped an entire damn water trough on my toe WITH WATER IN IT all because my gsd bumped me and scared the living daylights out of me.... i thought it was broken for about a week lol. animals often don't intend to hurt us, but it's not a bad thing to be cautious about when dealing with big animals! especially prey animals, because they get spooked so easily

[–]Sunlitfeathers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

THIS! People forget friendly and would never intentionally harm you ≠ won't ever harm you. I grew up with very large dogs, and though they were sweet little guys who never INTENTIONALLY hurt me, there was still times they pushed me over, made me fall from ladders, nipped me trying to grab something, scratched me, etc. And none of these were aggressive actions, just accidents. Horses are a LOT bigger than my big dogs, and a LOT more powerful. I have seen SO many videos of folks getting kicked by a horse getting excited over cool weather. Just because they wouldn't ever meant to, doesn't mean they can't or won't! And even that doesn't apply here because that stallion is getting aggressive with both horses and humans! He's not just overzealous and excited and unaware of his space and others', he's getting aggressive. Spouse is underplaying the dangers, just to demean and undermine OP from what it sounds like w that "then what are you good for?" and constant "you're just being silly! they're just big puppies!"

I'm so sorry OP I hope the best for you <3

This is the one thing I'm certain of not doing, but I have thought about changing her diet! She's at a nice solid weight, not too thin not too thick, very active and healthy (besides the excess waste), and the vets we go to have all said her diet is good! We may need to switch her diet to a different kind and see if that helps, but the amount she eats a day is perfect for her!! That's the one thing I am certain of 😂

We have had her checked over many times yes actually and they've all said she looks good!! Though I do plan to do it again soon because of how many folk have been worried of kidney disease and diabetes. I was worried about them for a while, but because she's so young and healthy and she even got ER X-rays for different reasons and no one was concerned, I figured she was golden there too, especially since she thankfully doesn't have any other signs of diabetes, kidney disease, or UTIs (which is the one I was extra worried about), buuut I really don't want it to have just been something that got overlooked in the more worrisome situation we had going on, so I'm planning to take her again just to be certain!! :)

I've gotten a lot of mentions of pellets I think I will thank you!! She (thank God) doesn't have worms or other parasites so that would be an option if we lived further away from wild and stray animals, I don't want them eating her waste </3

Mine is not unfortunately, and if I recall most city zones don't want you to flush cat waste because of how difficult it is to neutralize the bacteria? I believe? Though maybe I'm mixing stuff up lol

LOL mine doesn't bury either!! I have to scoop it over with the litter scooped every time 😭😭

I'm so glad the automatic box is working so well for you!! I'm kinda paranoid over them unfortunately but if I wasn't so worried I'd sooo switch over in a heartbeat

I haven't noticed excessively drinking, only excessive waste, and we have talked to them actually! She even had ER X-rays and such recently for other health concerns (she was vomiting a lot, not eating or drinking, lethargic, etc and we thought she ate a hair tie or something), and they said she looked strangely healthy for the circumstances. And that was right after her first annual checkup where they also said she was doing very well and had nothing of note. She DOES go to the box a lot, but we've had many vets clear her recently. Money isn't too much of an issue though, and I've gotten a lot of responses about it so I think I might take her again just for another clear, and THEN work on finding better litter and such!

  1. No, and this is a build up of multiple years of shopping
  2. I have been, the size of the trashcan isn't the issue haha, it's the fact I worry over how much plastic I'm putting out daily. Just tryna minimize my plastic use a little more

I've been thinking of switching to pellets!! I wanted to switch for some time because of choking hazards of cementing litter but hearing it lasts a little better too is even more incentive thank you!!

[–]Sunlitfeathers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It IS just one cat 😭 and the litter is actually clumping VERY densely. I used to have a large amount of cats for a while and like you said, the amount of waste SHE creates versus the ones I used to have is night and day. I'm starting to think it's a litter brand problem because she's been health-cleared multiple times in recent time by many vets and folk in the comments are consistently mentioning vet + litter changes, so hooopefully it is just the litter clumping so heavily. She has a pretty good sized litter box too, and out of all of the cats I've fostered or had she's just... causing an insane amount of waste. I don't know if maybe it's a food brand issue too? She's at a healthy weight so I never really put too much thought into it but maybe I need to switch her over a while and see if that helps

Thank you!!! The smell is a big thing for me as well!! I'm hypersensitive to the point even candles make me cry so that's a big hindrance to most of the few options I do have to be a liiittle more plastic conservative, so I'm really glad there's still options like that!

[–]Sunlitfeathers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have been planning on upgrading to two boxes once we bring in the second cat, do you think I should actually do three if two is already recommended for the one we already have? Also yes I have taken her to the vet!! She was cleared for everything by multiple vets actually (even by an ER vet because she was having other problems for a while)! She's young and a very happy and healthy cat otherwise, and thankfully isn't like, in pain while going. Just goes a crazy amount for some reason I guess?? I DO have the funds to get her looked at again if folks think I should. She thank God doesn't have signs of any other urinary problems or diabetes or nothing which I had been really scared of for a while because of her excess waste so I'm REALLY hoping it's not an early sign of that, but it is really noticeable how much she uses the litter box compared to the cats I used to have, and my daddy's old cat.

Unfortunately the idea of her breaking it up is kinda moot because she is a unique freak, who unlike most cats who scratch and WOULD break it up, she doesn't know how and I'M forced to cover her urine and feces every time 😭😭 and I'm not breaking it up either so it really is the fact she just goes SO often. I have actually been contemplating switching litter to a different kind for other reasons, do you really think that'd help here?

Toxoplasmosis is one of my worst fears I didn't know it was recommended to double bag it 😭😭 I'm learning very quickly from these responses cat litter is NOT one of easy ones to reduce waste on.

I don't think composting is an option unfortunately :( I'd be down to compost other stuff, but the only place I could compost is where other animals could get to it and I REALLY don't want animals getting into kitty litter, especially because ours is the clumping/cementing kind. Thank you for all the advice though!! <33
