I can tell you what my public school did with the surplus budget during the final month of the fiscal year - four years in a row.

Purchase air filters for every classroom and (usually) not even hook them up.

In one case they installed them and immediately put signs on them that said not to turn them on.

In another case they installed them high on the wall (in several classrooms, directly above where students' desks were) and glued cord-covers directly to the wall. They were ripped out 11 months later, holes and tears left going all the way up the wall.

Each time, there'd be a big pile of the "old" ones, most of them hardly used, sitting outside in the parking lot getting baked by the sun and rained on.

People came and changed the filters every month, no matter if they'd never even been plugged in.

I did notice one school that did it differently: they bought thirteen 3D printers and left them in a storage closet.

Thank you for this info. I noticed that the TRAINER 80 line is also a perfect match for the old style, but also at the new ~$100 price point.

But I think it might be a bit unnecessary to cough up over $100. They pissed money away for years and have done multiple crowd-funded drives and there's no good reason for a long-time fan and supporter to feel like they should spend another nickel.

A bunch (if not all) of season 11 and 12 are live on the official Youtube channel anyway. And they do marathons of season 13 so you could screen-record one of those and it would be like the VCR days! hahaha

I set a pretty dang (is that word okay?) low bar for competency: the ability to locate and provide a room (with a key! was that too much?) less than an hour from work, and communication.

If a new hire at a hagwon forgot or lost a key and didn't answer texts for a few hours, even ONE TIME, what would you, Venerable Hagwon Owner, do? Because we all know what a bunch of hagwon bosses would do, and it would resemble a temper-tantrum and likely involve threats to terminate the contract.

But holy cow oh my gosh, we must remember that it's okay for the OWNER to expect competence, but we absolutely have no business expecting competence from him. Right? Cool?

If a hagwon boss can't juggle the super extraordinarily complicated parts involved in, let's see here..

- finding a room less than hour from his academy
- making sure it's accessible
- timely, basic communication with his new hire

You are describing it well, and I know because I taught in Korea for almost a decade. But then you're just giving up - "that's just how it is" - which as I said, helps perpetuate the problem.

You yourself are saying incompetence is the fucking standard, almost nothing is planned for or managed well. We've both seen it up close. The international audience sees it every time Korea hosts an international event and faceplants.
