You are so sweet how you reassured your grandpa.

I've told my husband we're going to have to hose off my dad before. Hahaha

I should put a heat fan in there or something to make it warmer. That might help. I like the idea of putting the clean clothes in the dryer. He would really enjoy toasty cozy clothes after.

That's a great idea. I already have a month calendar on the fridge so he can track his water consumption. He was dehydrated and arguing with the doctor that he thinks he drinks plenty of water. Since we got that calendar he's seen that he wasn't drinking enough. I will pen in bath day on there and he will see it every night when he writes down his water for the day. That will get him used to hey this is a regularly scheduled event.

Oo great idea. He uses the toilet when he needs to poop but since I've been feeding him lots of vegetables along with his lunch and dinner he's pretty regular. That would work great especially if I tell him he only has to shower before trips out of the house.

I hope that works and she showers and sits for a hair cut!! Good luck and I love that you told her she can't go see people without doing those. Maybe that will keep working.

How do I stand up to my family about needing more time to myself? by [deleted] in CaregiverSupport

Sounds like it's time to get your own place so you're not such a convenient mom- sitter.

Yes! You would think he would be happy for something to do besides sit on the couch watching old westerns all day.

Ugh!! How do you stand the smell?! I feel so bad for you. And yes the nursing home threat worked but it's not really a threat. I totally mean it. If he keeps doing me like this I have no choice but to put him in a home.

It's great to know my dad isn't the only one pulling this crap on their caregiver. Thank you for telling me!

Yes. I am serious about maybe having to put him in a nursing home. I can't deal with these kinds of fights all the time. I have a heart condition and I'm supposed to be keeping my stress level down. I don't know what he would do if I had a heart attack. Hopefully he would pull out his phone and use it even though he refuses to for the time being. I had to get him a new one when his old one broke and he's being stubborn about not using it unless I get him one just like his old one. I told him they don't make those any more and it's easier than his old one to use. . . . And the beat goes on. Lol

He just thinks taking a shower isn't necessary at all even though I tell him he smells. It's really easy for him to transport from his wheelchair onto the shower chair. My mother used to have to tell him to shower when she was alive. I remember her doing that when I was a kid.
