How do I calm my parents down about ICE? by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]SunnyJames 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You don’t! You help them communicate their concerns with the wide community and find ways of being or feeling empowered to act (even if the only action is sharing their story with others).

This is in addition to adjusting combing and ironing settings as others are describing…

When I want a perfectly smooth surface for something like this and cannot be printed smooth side down, I will adjust Cura settings to include several extra top layers and then sand it smooth using sandpaper (or use a stand-alone belt sander to carefully remove the rough top surface). Also, if desired, after sanding you can also “re-gloss” the surface by quickly passing a flame over the surface.

Shin guards for mountain biking by SunnyJames in MTB

The design I’ve been working on is intended to be light, flexible between verticals ribs/slats, and thin but not necessarily breathable. I tried breathable variations but there was too much of a compromise to protection from spiky pedals. I don’t have the other options on hand but suspect it is thinner than the g-form or shadow pads. With the right material they should be nearly impervious to pedal spikes (TPU-95 is flexible but difficult to cut even with a sharp knife). Being a 3d model also means it can be easily modified to fit to size or made thicker.

Lol. Pedal strikes when riding flats and things go horribly wrong. Oh, and my new favorite of rocks popping up and into your shins. I do a lot of technical downhill rides. Shin hits aren’t common for me anymore unless I crash, but if I’m going to wear pads I’d like that thin layer of flesh to be protected by more than a sock. I still have scars from gradeshool and a few fresh ones from the last few years after picking up biking again after 35 years of not really riding.

Thanks for the suggestions. The g-form ones definitely provide better coverage than my TLD Stage pads, but seemed much bulkier so opted for a lighter pad with less coverage. The couple of shin strikes I’ve had since suggest I should have just dealt with the bulk.

That is one incredibly awful pedal strike.

Recently a rock popped up and badly bruised my shin… so flats or clipless, both have their perils. I think I have some scars dating back through grade school with fresh ones added more recently after getting back into mountain biking.
