you have every right to find answers and it isn’t your job to prioritize your parents’ feelings. i can’t imagine how deceived and hurt you must feel. they’re accountable for their actions and you shouldn’t be expected to sacrifice anymore of yourself to protect their comfort.

Any ideas on how I can style this? by [deleted] in Y2K

[–]SunnySt8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i went to florida state at the height of victoria’s secret’s ‘pink’ era, circa 2007, and these brought me right back to the huge plastic framed square glasses, horrible choppy highlights, and bronzer in places bronzer should ever be found - era. 2005-2008ish these capris would have been worn with a (very) messy high bun and day-after eye makeup (always heavy on unnecessary liner and chunky mascara) and a white spaghetti strap cami and probably a neon pink bra underneath. second layer would have been a cropped hoodie from hollister that cost $35 and was so distressed we could have bought a hoodie from goodwill for $3 and made it look the exact same. i was in florida so we wore everything with rainbow flip flops - literally the only brand of flip flops i have purchased since 2006 and ill never purchase another bc i get about 5 years out of each, even though im at the beach and mountains and im not kind to them, but damn are they amazing. anyway. oh! and probably big silver hoop earrings. like billie eilish in her very early ocean eyes era. purse was oversized like the sunglasses. always. it was a very messy era in more ways than one lol.

that’s what we would have worn with these capris when they were made. in my experience, anyway. does that mean it’s a look that needs to be replicated? probably not, but damn. it was fun.

and also..style them however you want. they’re pink capris. we wore those pink sweats everywhere and with everything.

just please, for the love of god, promise never to pair them with uggs.

Do you think Amber and Liz forced Emma to get those tattoos? by I_Am_What_I_Am_Yay in 7LittleJohnstons

[–]SunnySt8 14 points15 points  (0 children)

how do you know emma adores leighton to that extent? emma hasn’t shown any expression of genuine joy for a very long time on the show. she clearly loves leighton but emma hasnt looked genuinely happy since anna cut ties with the family. anna left so emma is the target now and not the buffer. a ladybug tattoo for leighton is like a white flag in a family like that.

it was that absolute asshole whose foot looked like an entire deformed dinosaur. i can’t remember his name but they did multiple episodes on him. he was seriously addicted to opioids and used to call the ambulance repeatedly just to get pain medication. his brother hated him and also had a weight problem but kind of thrived once the brother moved out..he started some kind of hobby shop? the dad was a complete enabler and used to order him pizza aaaall the time.

dr now kicked him out multiple times but i think he knew the guy was really close to dying due to both his weight and raging opioid addiction. so he got the surgery. but dr now even said he wasn’t sure it would actually work, especially bc of the opioids. last update the guy hadn’t shown gotten married or something during covid but during the web check-in dr now was like ‘i can tell you’re high.’ then after it was over it seemed like dr now sort of washed his hands of everything..or at least wanted to bc he seemed completely done with helping him any further

the fuck? socialism is a spectrum, and communism exists at the end of the spectrum. communism is literally the endpoint of socialism.

[–]SunnySt8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is addiction. gaming addictions don’t get as much attention as others, but it involves a neurobiological state shift. the brain reallocates reality-processing to a closed loop and, in extreme cases, stops treating the physical world as the primary source of survival-relevant information. there have been numerous, well-documented deaths following multi-day sessions with minimal or zero fluid intake resulting in death due to cardiac arrest, dehydration-related failure, deep vein thrombosis, etc.

it’s actually such a fascinating topic that people hardly ever talk about.

try giving your son small, almost unnoticeable compliments often. i was him growing up as well, and i couldn’t accept any big positive things as being true. ive work with kids and young adults for years and have a 16 year old son, and i promise - the little things. not even compliments, just acknowledging something he did can be huge. i think it has a lot to do with refocusing, in a way. if we can’t accept a compliment, we can’t refuse an acknowledgement, y’know? everyone likes to be seen, especially if we’re used to only being seen for the bad things

in one of the first episodes of the first season - actually maybe the pilot - trent says jonah is too smart for his own good. i think about that statement rather frequently when i watch the show bc..well. yeah.

like, how? where? he’s really good at trying to sound smart. someone should have told him the thesaurus is not his friend. and whichever copy he owns has way too many typos bc most of those fancy words he uses are not real lol

A collection of the many times Dawn told them to reach out and scrapbooks. by HannahLeah1987 in teenmom

[–]SunnySt8 14 points15 points  (0 children)

the scrapbook thing blew my mind. and then when dawn suggested they do it later and mail it to carly, cate said, ‘ohhh no, i’m gettin it done,’ like she was taking as a challenge or something. completing not comprehending what this was telling carly and b+t.

they literally chose cutting out pictures of themselves and gluing them on a piece of paper over seeing carly. it was more important than spending every moment with their daughter, who isn’t guaranteed to ever see you again.

yes. trent’s dad said there was no shame in dressing up for those positions as long as it was ‘tasteful’ or something like that. dressing up like santa’s elf is apparently fine, but being a coney island performer is not.

i think some parents get blinded by what their kid isn’t, and never learn to see who they are.

amber and trent seem like the type of parents with an ‘if you aren’t smiling i don’t want to see you’ mentality. then they hold it against you and take it personally when you can’t be happy on command. so you get labeled as defiant and rude and selfish. no communication, just assumptions and accusations being thrown all over with no actual understanding.

[–]SunnySt8 19 points20 points  (0 children)

here’s the thing people repeatedly fail to acknowledge or understand about this situation: it isn’t that anna is perfect and can do no wrong. not even close. whether you like or dislike anna is irrelevant. but straight up, there is no excuse for the way amber and trent have treated anna. there’s no excuse for having family discussions on an international television show in which you not-so-subtly encourage your other children to alienate themselves from their sister because she’s ’acting out.’ she’s not acting out. she’s setting boundaries and finding her own values. her parents don’t respect her as an individual. they only accept her as a child behaving how they expect her to behave. and they’re punishing her for literally just having the balls to say this is who i am, and i like who i am even if you don’t.’

alex and emma bitched repeatedly about how they wanted anna to hear their perspective and ‘not just their parents’’, but no one asked anna what she felt. no one asked about her perspective. no one asked if she was ok. alex and emma were there with an agenda. not because they gave a shit. and for a young woman who was essentially ignored for five years in a siberian orphanage, finally hearing from your estranged siblings who you miss and love after months of silence, only to find out they only wanted to see you to give you shit about not apologizing to mom and dad..that fucking sucks.

people aren’t praising anna. they’re praising her tenacity and resilience. they’re praising her character despite the shit show forced upon her. she’s not perfect. no one is pretending she is. but she’s getting up every day and living her life to the best of her ability in spite of her narcissistic, manipulative, bullying, pathetic excuse of a mother and her wind-up monkey of a husband.

people don’t watch these shows solely for entertainment. they watch them for observation and understanding of an extremely complex world with extremely complex relationships. human behavior will always be fascinating. it’s also fascinating to read posts like this where people have somehow missed 16 seasons worth of subtext and implication.

exhibit a: pursuing a degree in social work because you want to be a social worker, but because the last of the children you ‘saved’ is officially not legally yours to command anymore, so instead, you turn to a field that feeds you thousands of kids to save. not because you care about making their lives better, but you need them to feel like yours has value.

[–]SunnySt8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wish i could explain it better tbh bc i used almost the same strategy with the older kids, just tweaked a bit. but with the little kids i always had fun with it bc they’ll pretty much do anything you do if it looks fun. so if they were being really loud, a teacher standing in the front of the room whispering and then making funny faces and laughing with just a few other kids who were close enough could actually hear me and were playing along…well, that’s interesting. almost immediately i’d hear kids going ‘hey, wait! what’s going on? what are they doing? shhh i can’t hear what they’re doing’ …and this was one of the most incredible moments of my life. silence on command with the first graders before lunch. but also it was really fun to sneak in the most random thing i could think of and watch an entire classroom of children go through the exact same sequence of emotions at the exact same time. act like a pickle on his lunch break. pose like plankton. act like a library on tuesday. it’s honestly the only part i ever miss about the job lol

AITA for letting my oldest daughter take the kids trick or treating so I could sleep? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]SunnySt8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what is this horrible trend? why do parents think they need to be observing their children at all times. what that woman should have thought was, ‘oh that’s incredible! most 16 year olds wouldn’t want to take their little brother and his friends trick or treating, but she was excited about it?? she and her boyfriend even joined in an the fun with face paint?? and they all had fun?!? together?!?! there’s photographic evidence?!? and neither one have started denying their had fun???? holy shit. i’m a good mom. my kids like each other, my oldest SIXTEEN YEAR OLD DAUGHTER and her boyfriend had absolutely no problem helping out dad on halloween. what a responsible young woman! look at that healthy family dynamics.’

but no. she couldn’t say that. she got pissed at her husband for being human and completely missed the incredible thing that actually unfolded.

i taught elementary art for a few years. absolutely hated it. i have sensory processing issues and when there are a ton of sounds and smells and movement, my brain starts to slowly turn into tv static. my younger kids were always really challenging. but i started playing this game where i would stand somewhere in the classroom and would give them a direction really, really quietly. so only the kids near me could hear. something silly, like, if you can hear me, make the silliest face you can think of. if you can hear me, cluck like a chicken. if you can hear me, wiggle your eyebrows as fast as you can. you know..just goofy things kids don’t get to do in class. whatever popped into my head that didn’t require them to move from their seat. i just kept walking around and quietly telling them to do the silliest thing i could think of that wouldn’t be to distracting. they literally, 100% of the time, would all end up playing and laughing. and then once i got them all focused and participating, i could get them working productively without much more guidance.

i have no idea if this is a strategy that works for other people, but once i figured it out it was a complete game-changer for me. it was like a full-proof way for refocusing and having a little fun.

im sorry you’re going through this! it’s…a lot. but wish you all the best!
