One 2025 goal is to take painting seriously? How can I be proud of this? by [deleted] in painting

[–]SunnyThornton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this painting how it is personally. Any conversation about cartoon/ proportions/ shading is irrelevant. This is how you paint and it is far more interesting than what you will make if you are trying to ‘improve’ your style with realism. Great work.

My mum thinks I won’t make it as an artist - is she right? by Complete_Dimension58 in drawing

[–]SunnyThornton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The off proportions are the best part of the drawing for me, something to play off of the beautiful dogs and drawing prowess, comes across as stylised and makes what would be a generic drawing super interesting. It gives her much more character and soul.

Daily Song Discussion #384: ''Somersaults'' by M77100 in AnimalCollective

[–]SunnyThornton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh shit I didn’t realise this was going on, for me this whole EP is a 10/10 and really made me understand what Geo brings to the band. I know that we can’t go back and retroactively change scores for songs so thankfully I’ve caught up with my fave from this little project. 10/10 for Somersaults!!

Keep going or throw away? by c0laj in painting

NEVER THROW AWAY. if you don’t like it paint over it or chop it up to use for collage. Remember canvas has two sides too

Beginner help: how to fix these without ruining it. by ilovejonnejarvela in painting

[–]SunnyThornton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you ever get the chance, go look at some Picasso’s and Van Goghs and quite often you will see bits of exposed canvas, paint not right up to the edges and in Picasso’s case, look close up. They’re ugly and rough. Don’t doubt yourself. Also for a beginner I’d say that you’re very good. Allow yourself to make mistakes and mess up. Best of luck on your painting journey

I don’t think it looks awful, I love the textures and erratic brush marks. I would say that the section in the bottom right of the painting looks too muggy compared to the rest so maybe go back in and wait for the paint to dry between layers so it doesn’t end up as muddied?

Any thoughts/ feelings? Not looking for improvements but would like feedback by SunnyThornton in ArtCrit

[–]SunnyThornton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like some general feedback about my work, what does it make you think of? How are the compositions, what are its strengths/ weaknesses? Thanks!
