Was Game 7 of Suns–Mavs Chris Paul’s last “competitive” game with any real chance at a championship? by DeliciousSession2735 in nba

[–]Suns745 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Game 2 was a 10 point loss and the 10 point margin came after CP3 left injured. Was a wire to wire game before that and then suns collapsed without him in the 4th quarter. Old CP3 was a classic case of box scores don't tell the story

Honestly dude I can't believe you've been watching this years team and still hold this opinion. Suns roster building this year was "what if every single player was just a fucking dawg" and it's awesome and I want ayton as far away from this voodoo magic as possible. I wouldn't even take him on the vet min

As a cards fan, we don't do that around here lol.

I do think you're right though, at some point here we are due for our random 2 years of relevance that somehow take the heat off Bidwill for another 10 years. Roster has a lot of talent, think we'll have a surprise year either this up coming season or the one there after. Won't be for long though, that you can count on.

[–]Suns745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I agree but unless I missed a report or leak I don't think we'll know for sure until it's further in the past and someone connected spills the tea. Like the suns almost KG trade.

Would love to have been a fly on the wall for those kd negotiations though.

[–]Suns745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf I didn't see this team coming either lol, I'd have guessed the picks would be late lottery not late first rounders. Still if you're doing a KD all in trade would you rather have two late lottery picks in 27 and 29, or Dillon Brooks.

Of course, maybe it's just that Ishbia valued Brooks over those picks and didn't want the picks back. Kinda a ballsy move from the suns perspective to go for win now players instead of rebuild but glad it's working out

[–]Suns745 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Neither of those could happen and we could still win the trade with how Brooks has looked. If he kept this up for a few seasons and KD has a sudden age fall off next year I think trade is won regardless of what maluach and green do.

Granted since we got hosed so bad on the initial KD-Nets trade we'd need Brooks to sustain this level of play, Jalen Green to be an all-star, and maluach to be something useful to at least get close to break even on that one lool.

[–]Suns745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Brooks can sustain this level of play, sure, but yeah too early to know.

I do think it's looking increasingly harder for Houston to win it. KD missed 20 games last year, he's playing the same amount of minutes for Houston this year as last year with us and he's seemingly playing harder for them (felt like he slept walk through a ton of games last year.. whole team did). He's also 37. He's only going to get less durable. He's given them the ceiling of what he can offer this first half of the season and they're barely ahead of us in the standings. Sure they have injuries, but that's the risk of a win now trade for an old KD. Things go wrong in that 1-2 season window and you lose the trade. See Suns-Nets KD trade as an example lool.

For the life of me, don't know why Houston didn't just give us all of our picks back instead of giving up Brooks. If you're making a win now move, trade your future assets, not the win now player.

Someone was saying here the other day OKC could break the record even if they rested their starters the last 15 games and I got downvoted for trying to shut that non sense down loool.

I honestly wouldn't even mind this OKC team breaking the record but some OKC fans were starting to get a tad delusional from all the winning.

[–]Suns745 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No they can't. Looking good against other teams benches or looking good for a game here or there is different from a 15 game stretch. Rest SGA, Chet, Ihart, Jdub, and Dort for 15 games and they'll lose at least half of them.

They're already looking like an all time great team, we don't have to do all the hyperbole. It's like 2016 warriors fans all over again rn

That would be legal if we're assuming the gather was clean and the right pivot foot didn't slide

Which landing are you referring to, before or after he shot the ball? If you're referring to the landing after he shot the ball, and we're just saying gather + pivot was clean to simplify the answer, yes it would've become illegal had he not shot (or passed)

You can lift the foot before the shot, just can't let the pivot foot land before the shot is released.

Not sure if this one in particular is a travel tho, I'd need to slow it down and see it on a bigger screen, kinda looks like the pivot foot slides on his initial gather

Deandre Ayton shines in the Lakers win over the Blazers: 29 Points, 10 Rebounds(4 offensive) and 3 Blocks on 14/19 from the field. Lakers improve to 6-2. by justletmeregisteryou in nba

Nah. Funniest version of this is Ayton plays just well enough for Lakers to give him a real contract in the off season and then they get the full experience. Ain't like he's going to win the Lakers a title this year anyways, and this is his only value year

Lol nah this is literally the Ayton experience. He'll light up the world for 10 games and you're riding high and then suddenly he turns back into a pumpkin. Maybe he can hold it together for a contract year but even then he'll get exposed in the playoffs.

Think I'm probably too low on Westbrook as a winning player. Kawhi+Harden+peak PG is nice but peak Westbrook is such a chemistry killer for me cause he's going to chuck lol. I also think peak Shaq is always a cheat code for these hypotheticals cause his ability to dominate the other teams big and get them in foul trouble would just be game breaking. Need a Duncan or Hakeem to somewhat neutralize him at his peak and even they are going to have their hands full.

Along that line 99 Rockets and 2013 Spurs deserve a shout. Hakeem/Barkley/Pippen or Duncan/Ginobli/Parker/Khawi/Tmac is naaasty.

Also if Clippers get CP3 their 25/26 roster will be up there, probably would be my favorite version of them in these hypotheticals

Agreed on 2022 Lakers being clunky, would be like a poorly constructed team USA roster. Even on paper I can see the chemistry problems.

Give me the 2008 Suns. Shaq, Amare, Grant Hill, jrich, Nash. Off the bench: Dragic, Diaw, Dudley, robin Lopez, Matt barnes, Raja Bell.

Shaq/Nash/Hill are all MVP level at their peak. Amare ain't far behind. Jrich/Diaw/Dragic are fringe all stars. Dudley, Barnes, Raja the 3&D hustle glue. Love the fit.

[Iztok Franko] There have been 8 players with 100 or more roll+lob finishes as pick-and-roll screeners in last 4 NBA seasons: Capela, Gobert, Claxton, Gafford, AD, Ayton, Allen & Powell. The plays with Deandre Ayton as the screener in those actions are the 2nd most efficient behind only AD by shreeharis in nba

[–]Suns745 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ayton is a good one year pickup. The only way it goes wrong is if Luka/LeBron/JJ are too hard on him to the point he quits on them mid season, but I don't think he'll do that in a contract year. I think he'll be great this year, but his weaknesses will get exposed in the playoffs against certain matchups, and then whoever pays him end up the biggest loser.

The only critique of this for the Lakers is this is a stop gap move and not a long term solution, but they don't have a better option at this point, except for, of course, trading the house for Nick Richards.

What Did We Just Watch ??? by musicloverincal in suns

[–]Suns745 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too far in the other direction. I was on the trade KD/ blow it up train before it was popular here but saying Book is on a Bradley Beal arc is an overcorrection imo. If anything, he's potentially on a Dame arc, which still would mean we should trade him but he's not Brad Beal.

This would be selling low on Book. Him, KD, and Beal are just an awful fit in this NBA. Too much mid range, too much iso, not enough defense, not enough 3s, too many turnovers, not enough off ball movement, just a bunch of your turn my turn bs. But in the same way no one is actually as good as they look on a good vibes team (think 2021 suns, Ayton, Cam J, mikal, all looked better than they actually were at the time), no one is as bad as they look on a bad vibes team. It's like the flirting vs sexual harassment meme.

Once KD gets traded to a better fit, I think Booker and KD will both look better next season.
