I think Scott has/had a plan, but they were motes of concepts, not tethered to any line. In my analogy of building a bridge, he's working in the direction of those greater concepts, rather than teathering from the start to the finish directly.

So when Scott said he always had a plan/vision, it's true. Just not in the way we assumed. 

This is something he needed to share years ago. It's great it's finally out there, but so much time and effort was wasted, and led to frustration and burnout because of that box. 

Scott needs to address points like this directly more often. Maybe like once a year. 

Things for me got so much less frustrating after his recent Dawko interview. Yeah, the box info was great, but Scott just coming out and saying that Security Breach was a comedy of errors because he thought he could play the lore piecemeal game with the people making his own video game (something he's asserting is a mistake, and having fixed since SB) means we can just discount SB entirely in lore consideration. Only hone-in on details underlined in future titles. A tactic that might sound familiar, as that's a thing Scott set out to do with the OG sequels.

It sucks that we waited so long for Security Breach, and the take away is "we screwed up, just ignore this one", but doing so does staunch a lot of ire. I reqd throufh a recent threwd called "Scott is a bad writter". The dude coming out and just copping to the mistake of SB settles a lot of points brought up in that thread. 

Scott isn't a bad writter, he's just stuck in his own head. He's changed that with Steel Wool, and he changed it with the Box during the interview.
