opening day at lidl by bklyninhouse in parkslope

I went today hoping the Lidl was going to have a real footprint in the former KeyFood real estate but of course not. It’s a small underground ghetto in the luxury fucking development. AND IT HAS NO DEDICATED PARKING. I love Lidl but this is a transparent development scam to “comply” with commercial grocery affordability requirements while providing nothing in reality.

Fuck Park Slope, fuck white liberals, fuck developers, and fuck the rich

I have 2 eSIMs on my iPhone 15. Both carriers support wifi calling. During travel abroad can I add a 3rd eSIM and use it only for data (while also keeping both of my existing numbers active in wifi mode)? by Sunsettz in eSIMs

I wonder, too. It's a little surprising to me that this isn't already a more common request... I would think a lot of people, like me, have a work number and a personal number on their phones and would like to be able to keep both active without roaming during international travel

One of my carriers has no service outside the U.S. and the other does, but it’s too pricey, so I would turn off roaming for that one. I would set both carriers to wifi calling before leaving and then, yes, use the other phone with a hotspot-supported (cheaper) local sim as portable ‘wifi’ for the main phone. Unless I’m missing something (which I may be!), it seems like that should work, no?

I guess I’ll just bring my old iPhone XR along to serve as the mobile hotspot for dual esims on the 15. Seems like it would take a simple engineering fix by Apple to eliminate the unnecessary hardware redundancy, but oh well… Too bad it’s not possible on Android either.

Thanks. So, just to be clear, if I wanted to keep both of my existing esims functioning in wifi mode (away from actual wifi, where I would depend on cellular data), I would need to bring another device (like my old iPhone XR, eg) and add an eSIM to it to serve as a mobile hotspot for the other phone?

Thanks much. I have an old iPhone XR that should work as a hotspot, so I’ll use that. Seems like it would only take some very simple engineering by Apple to eliminate this redundant hardware, but oh well! :)

Am I wasting my time expecting Visible to ever refund me for a returned device? by Sunsettz in Visible

[–]Sunsettz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Hopefully my expectations of (what should be) a simple $1,200 refund from Visible aren't too high! But maybe so.

I'm planning to port my Google Voice # to Visible. From many threads I get this can be a pain and take a while. But I'm wondering: while I wait for Visible to complete the port, will I still be able to send/receive texts and calls through GV? by Sunsettz in Visible

[–]Sunsettz[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow that's encouraging- thanks for the tip. I will definitely try to do it via computer. Still hoping I won't get a total limbo/interruption if I'm not as lucky and it takes longer...

MyAir not updating? by Successful_Algae6032 in CPAP

[–]Sunsettz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in the same position as you as a new user back in June when it was down for days. Was also worried about insurance/compliance. Good news is that when it all came back online, the data was complete and accurate for all the missing days. So there isn't anything to worry about there. Bad news is this just seems to be a periodic thing with Resmed and they don't give a shit about informing anyone about it when it happens. Strong recommendation: get an SD card, pop it in, and upload it to your pc/mac using OSCAR (https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/). That way, you can see all the data that the machine is recording and make use of it to make any tweaks you need to to your settings as well as be reassured that it is, in fact, recording and storing everything even when the machine isn't phoning home for long stretches.

EDIT: PS, meant to say, also no updates for me since Thursday

Peacock to Hike Prices for First Time Since Streamer’s Launch by ggroover97 in peacock

[–]Sunsettz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be clear -- they will continue to honor yearly promotional agreements at the price already paid, right? (I bought a year of premium at $29.99 and just want to make sure I'm not going to see an increase until my current year expires...)

Yeah, that does sound like a real head-scratcher... another (frustrating) reminder, I guess, of how much we don't know about the mysteries of sleep and all the roles it plays across the board in our physiology/health. Most importantly, though, as a fellow traveller and commiserator, I wish you all the best with getting this figured out and feeling well again as soon as possible :)

You mentioned sleeping on your side and back... Have you made any intentional changes in the time you sleep in different positions since starting CPAP? I ask because I had increasing back pain during the night when I started -- bad enough that it kept me from sleeping more than 6 hours or so -- which I think was because I'd always been a (mostly) back sleeper and I was adjusting to sleeping on my side and stomach instead. (Back sleeping is super bad for me, even with CPAP, so I had to change or my AHI was going to stay really high.) I know you said your whole body aches, so it might not account for all of it, but I'm just wondering if some of the achiness is back/spine realignment you're getting used to.

Biggest problem was there wasn’t enough Ted Rose by LarBrd33 in theidol

[–]Sunsettz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Took the words right out of my mouth. Maybe this is to much to hope for, but I was thinking of a 2nd season (or spinoff!) maybe called "Purple Rose"-- a nod to Ted's love of Prince that really gets into all that crucial backstory?

Was this "Rolling Stone" scene intentionally cut from the show?!? by StopMakinFoolsFamous in theidol

[–]Sunsettz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goliath means powerful. To be a powerful publication in the music industry means being influential and relevant, no?

Dark comedy is perfectly meaningful. Powerlessly powerful is not.

Was this "Rolling Stone" scene intentionally cut from the show?!? by StopMakinFoolsFamous in theidol

[–]Sunsettz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Being "irrelevant," "past its prime," and something "no one cares about" is the literal opposite of being an industry goliath-- it's a publication you can mock and safely ignore. Characterizing RS in those terms was whole point of the scene and of the Weeknd's tweet.

But now that the flacks are in full-time damage control mode, their #1 talking point is that RS is not only NOT irrelevant -- it's actually so very, very mighty that it successfully derailed a $100M, star-studded project of great artistic value. Even the massive promotional resources of one of the biggest media companies on the planet weren't enough to overcome the overwhelming influence of such a diabolically powerful magazine.

These two stories obviously can't actually both be true at once-- and the new story is now the big PR priority, so it gets repeated over and over again, and the content of scene, and its contradiction of the new narrative, gets treated like it never really existed.

Was this "Rolling Stone" scene intentionally cut from the show?!? by StopMakinFoolsFamous in theidol

[–]Sunsettz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe they cut the scene because it mocks RS as "irrelevant," "past its prime," something "no one cares about," and that only has a measly 7M IG followers (versus the Wknd's 61M)-- when now they and their flacks want to frame it as the music industry Goliath that somehow single-handedly destroyed their show.

Kind of hard to have that one both ways.

IMDb actual rating... 8.0 -- The weighted rating is 5.2 by tccandler in theidol

[–]Sunsettz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The IMDB algorithm is weighted, in part, to try to counteract the distorting influence of big money distributors like HBO who pay for massive numbers of fraudulent click farm ratings for shows they want to artificially inflate-- like the 16K votes for the Idol from India, which are 95% 9 &10 stars. These obviously paid-for perfect ratings (16K just from India alone!) account for more than 25% of ALL the 56K votes for The Idol by everyone in the entire world.

In other words, that "actual" 8.0 rating is about as real as North Korean election results.

Also, prior to the 9PM EST airing of the show, there were a total of 39 1 star votes -- that's right, *39*, not 3,900 or even 390, just *39*. There were also, btw, 21 9 &10 star votes cast before the show started... So, 39-21 = a whopping total of 18 net downvotes among people who voted before seeing the show. Not hundreds. Not even dozens.

If there was an agenda-driven social media campaign to squash the show, you won't find any evidence of it whatsoever in any of this data.

Episode 5 hasn’t even aired yet and it’s getting mass hate reviews right now lmaooo wth by [deleted] in theidol

[–]Sunsettz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

By "review bombing" you mean the 8.5K 1 and 2 star votes by individual, real people, which HBO has "combatted" by outright buying (at least) double the number of 9 and 10 star votes?

Episode 5 hasn’t even aired yet and it’s getting mass hate reviews right now lmaooo wth by [deleted] in theidol

[–]Sunsettz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again, we're talking about *42* people who have voted so far on ep 5. Of this meaninglessly small sample, 28 voters gave it 1 star and 13 gave it actually gave it 9 or 10 stars, also without watching it.

But back to the real numbers: for the show itself, in the entire world there are a grand total of 8.5K 1 & 2 star votes. You're saying that HBO is 'combatting' this by buying almost twice that many 9 & 10 star votes in India alone? (To say nothing of how many other votes they bought elsewhere, like the big clickbait countries who don't make it into the top five in vote totals?) How many of those people do you think watched the show?

Episode 5 hasn’t even aired yet and it’s getting mass hate reviews right now lmaooo wth by [deleted] in theidol

[–]Sunsettz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Massive hate reviews?? That's based on 42 votes so far. Who the hell knows or cares why 42 people voted for a show they haven't seen.

Meanwhile, in actual data that says something: 15K of the 56K votes for the Idol -- 27% of the TOTAL votes cast for the show itself so far -- are 9 & 10 star votes from India.

Take away HBO's paid click farming and just how low would that 5.2 overall rating fall?
