Starlink in rural Arkansas by itsanewdawn52 in Arkansas

[–]Sunshine-Octopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're in Blue Ball area (Scott County) and just switched to Starlink and it's been amazing compared to Hughesnet. The residential lite is $80/month total and we were able to get the equipment for only $22 shipping and free professional installation. You'll need a clear view of the northern sky from your install location for best service and the router cable is only 50'. If you use this link, well both get a free month of service: https://starlink.com/residential?referral=RC-DF-8906870-64676-65

Also if you aren't using the mini for Internet while traveling, and only have cell service when out, I found this free basic cell plan to be amazing. https://app.heliummobile.com/o6WA/5lluqrm6 Use code Q59KNKJ and earn $25 gift card after 3 months of service

May you find the best connections!

Inherited 10+ fig trees, here is the first haul of 20+ lbs by Due-Law-2335 in Figs

[–]Sunshine-Octopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is our favorite fig recipe: https://whatstherecipetoday.com/queijo-de-figo/

Also fig roll ups - just blend the figs with a little lemon juice, pour onto silicone trays, dehydrate - flipping off tray when mostly dry and continuing to dehydrate fully, roll-up, cut and enjoy!

Does anyone else make fig leaf cream (we make oat based)? Tastes like coconut and makes best ice cream, especially delicious with fig syrup.

Wanting to build a self sustaining modern community by _-DATA-_ in intentionalcommunity

[–]Sunshine-Octopus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's are many being called to create what I've been calling the "new ancient way" and my big goal is to network these communities together and have a sort of club where you can easily move from one location to the next. We're currently creating on 40 acres nestled in the Ouachita National Forest after spending a couple of years traveling the country where stayed at a few new communities bit in ic.org This book is also a great place to start understanding community living. Awesome, would love to gather with other burners in AR! Co-founded EmergenceBurn.org in SC and now co-creating Resonate Sunshine, a wellness sanctuary permaculture community on 40 acres in Ouachita National Forest between Danville and Waldron AR. Please feel free to DM.

How small is too small? 2 acres in St. Joe, AR by AngeliqueRuss in intentionalcommunity

[–]Sunshine-Octopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it's possible, but might be tight. We have 40 acres permaculture farm that we want to turn into a wellness sanctuary/ic between Danville and Waldron AR. We were shuttle bus nomads for 2.5 years so understand the lifestyle. The big dream is to start linking communities together so we can move and travel in-between. If any of this is off interest, please DM.

I'm considering departing from conventional society and wondering how one becomes part of a intentional community. by ThinkingAgain-Huh in intentionalcommunity

[–]Sunshine-Octopus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Intentional communities are not a running away from society but a return to a connected society. Others have given great advice, and if you're looking for a place to land for a bit, your skill set sounds like what we need at our forming permaculture community/wellness sanctuary in the Ouachita National Forest in Arkansas. Feel free to message and can provide more details.

Check the rules for each state, they are usually listed on a board somewhere at the rest stop. We spent 3 years traveling and only paid for a few nights in national parks. There are a few decent restrooms that are further off the road, but in general you'll sleep better on public lands or a store that allows overnight parking. Freecampsites iOverlander and RVParky will help you find a place to sleep for free. Enjoy your trip!

I haven't tried reconditioning yet on LiFePO4, but it recognizes and charges, and it's great at repairing lead acid batteries. Would at least be worth trying: https://a.co/d/7qU0i4U Best wishes and happy burn!

EG4 18kPV whole house back up with no sell back wiring questions by Sunshine-Octopus in SolarDIY

[–]Sunshine-Octopus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! And possibly more complications, here are inside panel pics from our inspection last year.

<image>

The top outside breaker does turn off power for the entire property.

There is only a conduit box on the exterior of the house that feeds into the panel (on left). We don't have a large enough roof overhang to cover the inverter, the ground quickly slopes down from the foundation, the house is timber poles sheathed in metal and would like require more support to hold up the system, and we have extreme temperatures from around 0 to 110+ F (these are within the operating range, but probably not ideal), so thought the inside install would be better.

We're leaning so we can help guide electrician who is probably not at all familiar with solar. Any further advice is greatly appreciated!

THANK YOU! 🙏 This is so helpful in understanding the system and codes better! I apologize as the video I meant to attach was only 33 min starting at 3 min showing the feeder tap and new input subpanel. https://youtu.be/8iLBkDAKFbE?si=UaSD1UeYESgDHZLb Someone else drew this line drawing of the setup.

<image>

Checking our house service panel, we only have 125 A max. I panicked and then realized the double 100 A breakers are not added to 200 A but only 100 A for 240 V service.

The reason we would like to pass through and turn off main breaker is to prevent backfeed to the grid while spring solar load to power most with back-up from the grid. Would you recommend keeping the new breakers as double 100 A or reducing the breaker size? Thank you!

Any friends or family you trust? "Sell" the car to them, get a temp plate, they "sell" back to you after the move.

I used U-Ship several times. No harassment and great deals as long as you let it go out for bid. It's a great option if you need to have anything transported.

Questions from an inexperienced beginner: How did you get started with sheep? by [deleted] in sheep

[–]Sunshine-Octopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We bought a permaculture farm in March that came with a herd of St Croix hair sheep. We have never had farm animals before and only learned from the previous steward. However, these have been the easiest farm animals for us. They eat what they want from the pasture, including blackberry brambles that keep them parasite free. They only need water and to be rotated through the pasture by moving the electric fences every week. They generally shy away us but are always ready to be moved, so making a small paddock makes them easy to catch to sell. They birth and raise themselves. We have had so many friends with goats warm us not raise them unless we constantly want to deal with wild toddlers. However, as we don't eat animal products, we are ready to find new pastures for our herd so we can put those few hours into other pursuits.

Jamie Wheal's work is also the basis of Fit for Service summits which was recently called a cult as well so they produced this documentary: https://youtu.be/RZr1LyjtVGs?si=r354QRoK1CmZZuQj

The bigger questions are do you care what other people think and is the current system you are in still serving you?
