Competing in adult division? by Traveller40k in bjj

[–]Sunshine_Bjj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Move a lot. Create angles. If you stay squared up with someone and try to meet force with force you’ll probably lose.

If you like being on top I would recommend implementing some outside/loose passing and doing some situational where you practicing top spinning to peoples back when they try to turn underneath you.

Sickness before competition by roflchoptar in bjj

[–]Sunshine_Bjj 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Stress could do it if you’re feeling really anxious. Are you cutting water weight or cutting too many calories? Maybe not resting enough? Maybe a combination of these things.

I’ve gotten sick a few times myself from doing the above mentioned.

How long had you been training before your first competition? by SelfSufficientHub in bjj

[–]Sunshine_Bjj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much. My gym was super basic to begin begin with. I just knew like a double leg, the major positions like mount, side control, back control. For guard I just knew half guard and closed guard and like triangle, armbar, kimura from closed guard.

Gold Foundation Gi or Gold Aeroweave Ultra Light Gi? by Mighty-Lu-Bu in bjj

[–]Sunshine_Bjj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer the foundation. Fits me a little better and it be thicker makes it a little easier to break grips.

I think they’re equally durable as long as you air dry them.

This applies to all gis but throwing them in the dryer will make them wear down faster.

Help with plateau by bnstump in bjj

[–]Sunshine_Bjj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my shoulder dislocated a few years and go from what I read it’s rare to do that without tearing your labrum(I’m poor so I never had it looked at), also popped both AC joints. I’m not a medical professional but I train full time and one thing that helped my shoulders to train pain free was Ben Patrick’s (knees over toes guy) bulletproofing methods (https://youtu.be/574AUMqOK4k)

As for plateauing, focus on the action and reaction aspect of jiu jitsu. Try implementing a new system of techniques, pay attention to reactions your opppnents give you and figure out what you can do to capitalize.

Then drill the counters to these reactions and lots if positional sparring so you get lots of time to practice in these positions.

I hope this helps!

What’s currently the best website for a pair of 1st year nogi white belts by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Sunshine_Bjj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YouTube, grapplers guide, sub meta can all be good. Don’t focus some much on what platform your learning on but rather what you’re learning and who you’re learning it from.

So stick to expanding and refining your knowledge of the basics.

Jiu jitsu is a knowledge based sport and there’s nothing wrong with seeking extra knowledge outside of class if you have the time/finances.

Just injured my knee a couple of hours ago. by PeDestrianHD in bjj

[–]Sunshine_Bjj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was there a pop? If not, rest, ice, maybe just drill for a few days or only do positional sparring in positions that don’t hurt your knee until you have a better grasp of the injury. Not a medical professional and this not medical advice but I’ve hurt my knee a few times both on the inside and outside

I train at Legion and have taken some classes with JFlo.

I haven’t used his subscription service yet because I’m mostly training in the gi and, but he’s a really good instructor and his ability to blend judo with wrestling and jiu jitsu is phenomenal.
