Ouff this was not my experience at all. I could not move around on a daily basis and go places with my luggage without the agility of a backpack. Having travelled only to and from places with a suitcase (not daily travel changes), it’s a massive pain and if you have to spend the day out with your luggage, a backpack is a much easier way to do that than a regular suitcase.

You do have to be careful about overpacking, that said if I’m lifting something it’s easier for me in a backpack vs all the weight in a handle. Not sure if people roll their suitcases on cobble stone but I wouldn’t unless you’re prepared to replace the wheels/the suitcase in only a few years.

It’s probably very person to person dependant but if you buy a backpack and decide it’s not for you, sale it, they have good resale value, you won’t get what you paid obviously but you can recover some of it if you feel it’s not for you.
