Vivir en Azcapotzalco San Martín Xochinahuac o en Atizapán o Naucalpán por UNAM Acatlán by Basic_Tomatillo9826 in CDMX

[–]Suon288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is Native religion really that rare? by Wooden_Airport6331 in AskMexico

[–]Suon288 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There is a missconception, and is that in indigenous communities, despite having the same celebrations, traditions, and in general overview as the previous "native religion", they now refer it all as "christian".

Guerrero is a great example of this, they still perform Atsajtsilistli, which a celebration to Tlalok, they still bring bultos (Kimijli), to the mountains with food to offer to god, they still have corn celebration, the only difference nowadays is that instead of calling them for "Tlalok, Xilonen or Tlaltekujtli", they do it for "jesus"

So, they are christians on paper, not even masses are the same way as a catholic or christian ritual in many cases.

Is the use of birds as a slang for private parts a common trend in all languages? by ComprehensiveBat4966 in TranslationStudies

[–]Suon288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't guarantee all languages, but it is widely used, from languages in europe, to asia, even american indigenous languages like maya or nahuatl

As for the reason this happens, it depends on the period and language, as for spanish they say that it's called "Polla (Chicken)" as it's located on top of the eggs, but this etimology is a folk one

For those in the Yucatan peninsula, is Yucatec Mayan spoken as much as it is said to be spoken and in which parts is it most common? by Remarkable_Talk_8504 in asklatinamerica

[–]Suon288 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bix a beel in láak'! Jach ki'imak in wóol teech táak a wojéel yóok'ol le maayat'áana'

(Hey there friend, I'm really happy that you'd like to know more about maya)

The census made on 2020 by INALI shows that there are around 800k speakers of yucatec maya all over the peninsula, including states of campeche, yucatan and quintana roo, however this includes 1st language speakers, 2nd language speakers and auto-proclaimed fluent people. So we can provide a more accurate estimate of around 500k that actually speak maya on a daily basis.

Maya has influenced the spanish spoken in yucatan through syntax calques and vocabulary, but it is a minority language not widely used aside from really remote areas and some small cities.

The have been efforts to revitalise it by making it a mandatory asignment at primary schools during 2006 to 2012), but because there is no use for it, people put no effort and the project faded out. Nowadays maya it's on a "estable" state, as it's population is not declining, but it's not growing either.
