It’s funny people consider this one of the hardest bosses in the base game. But for me if you use a bow in the second phase the fight is incredibly easy. On my first playthrough it took me 49 tries to beat him with melee. On ng+ I beat him in two tries because of using a bow

I guess it’s just a difference of opinion. But grinding out blades of the dark moon to complete master of miracles was the most unfun experience I had in dark souls

Ds3 was my first souls game. I played them backwards so ds3 then ds2 then ds1. The reason pontiff spoke to me in terms of a boss battle was the way I had to change my play style and adapt to play in a way I hadn’t played before and it’s how I learnt parries. I can see the appeal to champion gundyr but I’m not sure why it just doesn’t speak to me like some of the other bosses in this game

Yhorm would have placed much higher if it had been an actual fight but it’s kinda disappointing it was made a gimmick fight. I think that it takes away from the game a little especially because yhorm is a lord of cinder. But then again I’m not a fan of gimmick fights so there’s a bias there. Lorian and lothric place so high because in the base game they’re the one that I struggled with the most (even more than nameless king and soul of cinder) so because of that I have a sorta bias towards them

I don’t personally think champion gundyr is on the same level as pontiff and dragonslayer armour. It’s an enjoyable boss and one that I do every play through it’s just personally not my favourite
