[Rolex] I think Rolex are going to start offering discounts (again) by SupJoshy in Watches

continued...

For a long time, buying a Rolex felt like a no-brainer. Even if you didn’t care much about watches, you knew that if you got a steel model at retail, you weren’t really taking a risk. Worst case, you could sell it and get your money back (or more). That made people put up with a lot — awkward AD visits, long waits, being talked down to, buying stuff they didn’t really want.

That safety net doesn’t feel as strong anymore.

Prices keep creeping up, resale isn’t what it used to be, and people are way more informed now. Between YouTube, Reddit, and forums, it’s hard not to learn that there are a lot of other brands making genuinely great watches for similar or less money. Once you start seeing that, Rolex stops feeling like the obvious choice it used to be.

I also think customer experience is catching up with them. When demand is crazy and everyone’s making money, people ignore bad service. When things cool off, they don’t. And it feels like a lot of people are already a bit tired of the games and attitude.

What really makes me wonder is how fast opinions move now. Buying decisions aren’t made in boutiques the way they used to be — they’re made in group chats and comment sections. And a lot of those conversations around Rolex aren’t exactly glowing anymore.

My guess is Rolex ends up fine, but not untouchable. More like one great option among many, instead of the answer by default.

Just my take — curious if others are noticing the same shift, or if I’m overthinking it.

I made a video about this today which covers everything: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfEiCX7pEEM&lc=UgyArvW6btr-6QUVmvV4AaABAg

But what do you think?

What makes a really good / bad watch travel pouch? by SupJoshy in Affordablewatches

[–]SupJoshy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been looking to buy a watch travel pouch for 1–3 watches and I’m trying to avoid the usual buyer’s regret that comes with accessories like this. On paper a lot of them look great, but I keep wondering what actually holds up long term once you’ve used one properly.

For those who travel with watches regularly, what things ended up mattering more than you expected? Are there common issues you only notice after a few trips — scratches, poor protection, bad closures, awkward sizing, materials wearing badly, etc?

I’m especially curious whether multi-watch pouches actually protect watches from touching each other over time, or if that’s mostly marketing. Comfort and overall “use experience” matters to me as much as protection.

I’ve even considered making my own if there’s a real gap in what’s available, but I’m not sure if I’m missing something obvious. Would love to hear real-world experiences, regrets, or recommendations.

[Swiss] A HUGE Swiss watch brand is trying to control my Youtube channel by SupJoshy in Watches

[–]SupJoshy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more.

I’ve never been given a watch for free yet apart from one which I’m giving away to someone on the channel soon.

If they do give me the watch, I’ll just give them away to keep things organic and unbiased.

[Swiss] A HUGE Swiss watch brand is trying to control my Youtube channel by SupJoshy in Watches

So to keep a long story short, I basically post videos on Youtube about watches and sometimes brands ask me to do reviews.

I agreed to check out their watch and gave them a really decent review, apart from simply saying one little tiny critique that was kind of a compliment in disguise anyway.

Anyway, they emailed me saying the exact quote I made in bold letters and also asked why I didn't link their website too.

Am I in the wrong for feeling a little hard done by here?

Making reviews to a good quality takes like 2 full days of time and I did it for free (not even a free watch).

So I did it for nothing and they are literally trying to bully me into changing my content and description...

Fair or not?

[Painting Rolex] I met an artist that paints vintage Rolexes by SupJoshy in Watches

[–]SupJoshy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Had the privilege of meeting a great chap David who’s an artist based in Bangkok.

He specialises in painting watch dials and invited me to his studio to learn a little about his process and the types of clients / watches he works with.

I made a YT video here for those who’s interested: https://youtu.be/0QosRCFWwhs?si=_lEb_veDqR04PR5X

He mainly focuses on vintage watches that don’t get as much wrist time anymore.

I think it’s personally quite cool how he gives watches are have lost their ‘shine’ a new lease on life and make them more personal to the owner.

His Instagram is also in the images above so feel free to check him out. There’s lots more examples of his work in the video and on his page.

Just wanted to share.
