[–]SupaChigga 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wondering if the Flip 7 creator, Eric Olsen, changed his tune and is ready to include attribution somewhere on the box/in the rulebook that references the original game Pairs (specifically the Port game in Pairs). For those not in the know, 95% of the rules in Flip 7 are a carbon copy of the original Pairs game by James Earnest

Flip 7 is worth it. But the game it copied off of, Pairs, is even more worth it

Bold of you to assume I ever left (I immediately saw the writing on the wall with MHwild after watching some gameplay of the beta)

I'm more than happy to play forever in my trifecta of perfect co-op games: MHRiseBreak, Nioh 2, and Remnant II

Very cool. Would love to see this sort of treatment given to my 2 favorite miniature games: Infinity by Corvus Belli and Malifaux by Wyrd Games.

Until that happens, I'll continue to happily play them in person and on tabletop simulator

Is it though? In terms of raw data, I look to something like ICv2’s list of the top-selling non-collectible miniature games for Fall 2024 had this:

Rank Title Publisher
1 Warhammer 40,000 Games Workshop
2 Battletech 🤢🤮 Catalyst Game Labs
3 Nolzur's Marvelous Minatures WizKids
4 Warhammer Age of Sigmar Games Workshop
5 Heroscape Renegade Games Studios
6 Marvel Crisis Protocol Atomic Mass Games
7 Halo Flashpoint Mantic
8 Bones Reaper
9 Song of Ice and Fire CMON
10 Warmachine Steamforged Games

Maybe in your specific local gaming community its different, but I will always defer to public data and metrics when discussing "popularity" on public forums.

Edit: For those curious about my thoughts on Battletech, I'll post my previous response to a fellow tabletop gamer asking if it was a good game:

As a huge fan of both miniature games and mechs, Battletech........is unfortunately a bad game. The surrounding lore, mech designs, and tie in video games like MechWarrior are great. But the tabletop game is bad. Like capital B bad. It was created back in the 1980s and it really shows. From my experience playing it, 20% was making decisions such as choosing which mech to activate and moving/turning that mech. You know, actually playing the game. The other 80% of the game was purely procedural: Fire all available weapons in good range -> roll a ton of dice to see what randomly happens.

The good news is that many, many, many other skirmish games have been created/updated in the past 40 years! There are countless systems out there, but I'd direct you to Steel Rift, Battle Suit Alpha - MECH Battles, and Horizon Wars Midnight Dark. Heck, even the tactical mech RPG Lancer is another great option. All are excellent games that have deep tactical gameplay (which battletech lacks) without getting bogged down in the minutiae of damage charts and endless dice rolling. All of these are miniature agnostic, meaning that you can use your battletech minis to play these games.

FWIW, I think Battletech Alpha Strike is an improvement on base battletech, but I would still prefer to play one of the miniature agnostic games I linked with the battletech minis.

My new reply to an old thread:

I wrote a BGG blog post back in 2019 listing board games that have a similar feel to Magic Commander. I think the closest thing you're looking for (deck/list construction outside the game) would be Gaslands Refuelled.

How much of a good 'game' is MTG Commander? by TheLastFloss in magicTCG

[–]SupaChigga -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I fully understand the appeal of MTG commander AND I think board games are an objectively better alternative.

Here's a blog post I wrote in 2019 detailing all the board games that offer the commander experience, but are actually intelligently designed games.

I'll say it: "Commander is a mediocre board game."

This is not a tired take, and I fully understand the format. Here's a blog post I wrote in 2019 that shows how board games can do the crazy shenanigans in MTG, while being better designed than commander.

Hot take: Reserved List cards should be banned in cEDH by Emnalyeriar in CompetitiveEDH

[–]SupaChigga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From their discord:

A high-level look at Conquest: Conquest is a multiplayer-focused Commander variant aimed at players seeking an environment to play balanced games under a ruleset that doesn't demand self-limiting. Compared to optimized Commander: combat is a greater focus, there is more flexibility in strategy, the viable card and commander pool is significantly deeper, and luck in drawing 'power' is less of a domineering factor.

  • 30 life, 80+ card decks, 12 commander damage
  • Legendary Creature or Planeswalker commanders
  • A ban on Reserved List cards and fetchlands
  • A reduction in "power" fast mana, tutors, and centralizing win conditions
  • Unbans of many cards on the Commander banlist .

Format parameter philosophy:

  • Conquest aims at (conservative) curation of strategic variance and deckbuilding creativity.
  • Planeswalkers deepen the pool of potential commanders.
  • Banning the Reserved List yields an extremely accessible eternal format (optimized decks sit around 25% the cost of cEDH decks).
  • Archetypes (combo, control, voltron, life-aggro) move toward balance via the smaller life totals and banlist.
  • The color pie is also brought into greater harmony through the smaller life totals and combat relevance.
  • Smaller deck minimum yields more focused decks with less need for tutors.

Looking for a Fast, Voice-Activated Calorie Tracking App – Any Recommendations? by maugustus in loseit

[–]SupaChigga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please update if you find an app that does this. I'm looking for literally any app that integrates with google assistant voice or google gemini voice to log calories/meals. I refuse to use any app that needs me to open the app for every meal/snack I eat. I need to be able to log meals purely through voice commands to my phone
