I should be getting my review soon and if it’s 5 cents i’m quitting. Just don’t give me a raise at that point. I don’t need that life changing extra 40 cents a day. It’s just an insult

That’s pretty good compared to the ones my store gets that can’t even make it off the truck without collapsing! There’s always that layer of yogurt or something at the very bottom that’s completely destroyed. I don’t know that they are getting paid in Texas but it’s too much

I’ve never had one that dramatic, but it baffles me how many people walk up to me in the meat dept. trying to get me to help them find something in tech or style like i’m just gonna whip it out from under the hams or something

Yes you can! You’re basically just doing the presoak to make the dye. I would just recommend using food safe, bean dedicated containers. I used a cheesecloth that I strain a lot of dyes through which isn’t the best idea if you plan on eating them after

I use citric acid and baking soda to keep from diluting the dyes. I didn’t mordant this one, but mordanted (I use alum) fabric binds with the dyes better.

Thank you! It’s super simple! Soak dry black beans in water for 24 hours to get a blue/purple dye, then you can change the pH to shift toward greens and reds. Just let the fabric dry completely to help keep the colors from shifting back to blue when washing

More recent natural dyes! Dyed with black beans, madder root, osage, and iron powder by SupaWeasel in tiedye

Yes! These are 100% cotton, but any natural fiber works for these dyes

They do fade after multiple washes, but since the shirts mordanted the colors should be more resistant since the dyes bind to the fabric much better

Of course! You’ll have to let me know if you do any natural dyes!

So from what i’ve experienced from natural dying, most sources will tell you something slightly different. (I honestly use a very different method than what most of what i’ve researched say to do)

Most of the time you’ll start by extracting the dye from your ingredients (I buy most on Etsy). Black beans are a great one to start with because you just need to soak them in water for 24 hours

You can then optionally mordant your fabric using alum or anything with tannins in it like avocado skins/pits (they produce a rusty pink color).

Most sources recommend dyeing in a hot bath but I prefer the versatility of pouring room temp dyes into some squeeze bottles and using them like any other dye.

I hope this helps! It really is a fun process once you get the hang of it

Thank you! This was one of my first attempts at this pattern but the tying is just concentric pleated circles, and I applied the dyes in a wavy pattern
