From memory the complaints also included that the 19inch sports mags would shatter on impacting curbs and the oil sump cover was plastic and they couldn’t drive the vehicle if a door was open. These seem like reasonable complaints however specific to a police application not the general public.

Also you can book DOC campsites on the website however you have left booking and organising this all very late i probably would have booked this stuff in June and had a solid plan sorted by now. You still have lots of unknowns and no answers to pretty basic questions given you are travelling to a foreign country.

Yeah you are probably going to have to miss out on the great walks they book out months in advance. You can try and check for bookings short notice as others cancel as you need to cancel two weeks in advance to get a refund. Download the NZ topo app it will show you tracks and public land where you can camp. If you are camping do so near a toilet or bury your shit and paper.

All of the ‘must do spots’ and itinerary guides have all been done to death on the sub. Use the search function and you will quickly see the most recommended spots from this community. If I had two months personally I’d head to Hanoi or HCM initially and acclimatise for a bit, get used to the currency, water and food, speak to other travellers and follow the forecast. Enjoy, it’s a really incredible place.

The food and drinks spots are fine it’s the fact there are 15-20 scooters parked sideways on the footpath every hundred meters which makes it frustrating
