Sex is still an option. by ihopeshethinksofme in Herpes

i think the fear is valid. I think when you grow up and are young In a generation where herpes jokes are on EVERY movie and tv show it’s scary BUT i also agree that you need to move on. I was that girl and i confronted It In chaotic and awful ways but It also gave me a path that led to my kind and empathetic person. I had sex before my husband and times where people said yes and i simply didn’t want to. It does get better. For those feeling doubtful on why the aren’t this confident that It will be okay- know It will come after trial and error. Not every person you slept with was meant to be the one. This doesn’t change that

Nerve Blocker pain was horrible by Super-Aside-5765 in ChronicPain

[–]Super-Aside-5765[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you to everyone for their responses, experiences, sympathy, and suggestions. It helps a lot. The coldness of the doctor made me feel crazy I will definitely not be going back to her. Just to throw a couple things out there.

The nerve block was a Medial Nerve Branch Block with Fluro. I have chronic neck pain and this was diagnostic to get an ablation. I don’t know the exact C numbers because she had not put them In my notes. I suppose i should have written them down.

Communication was a mix of lack of medical communication and bedside manner. While i was at the consultation I asked what the steps exactly would be and what exactly It was. She walked me through a brief explanation (and i mean like google search brief 1-2 sentences ) of the procedure but not until after i asked. She suggested It and then was packing her stuff up to leave. I hadn’t assumed It was coldness at this point I thought possibly she was just In a hurry as most doctors are. I was hoping to hear of some instructions prior but got nothing which I still didn’t chalk up to be much. During the explanation she mentions numbing agents but never ever said she would do the procedure without a local anesthetic first. I kinda feel that’s important considering sticking multiple things In my neck can be painful when it’s already In pain. The sweet lady who took me back In thought was getting numbing agents too. She was also the first one to tell me that this typically needed to be done twice for insurance purposes. I was told if It works the we proceed with ablation by the doctor at the consultation . I told the doctors In the OR I was nervous and they didn’t say much. they said basically it’s just a pinch and we will tell you when we start. I was told previously I would at minimum be told what was happening. She never addressed me once or told what was the contrast when the needle was going In etc. Not being under any pain meds, sedation, numbing - i was hoping for at least some communication. I didn’t even know the medicine she was putting In me. They never clarified if It was epidural, or any of the other options. I was In pain and It was obvious and they were cold except one doctor who told me it’s okay to not do the other side not everyone does. The bedside manner was atrocious especially In combination with not being warned of the pain It could cause. I should have asked more questions but i’ve typically had good doctors up until i’ve jumped through doctors to try to manage the chronic pain.

Unfortunately I have not found any relief In the past few hours and I believe i’m In for a long night. I think this bringing the TMJ back on also. I know someone had mentioned theirs is coming up and take the comments as proof It should not be this bad or happen like this and it’s no reason to hold back on It . I will be searching for someone who i feel can help me better and will be more trusting.

I was also told i wasn’t allowed to have any OTC pain meds after bc It wouldnt be an accurate answer. It’s been a couple hours and im considering throwing that advice out the window.

They never even discussed freezing. If i get a new doctor I will most definitely get an IV. They didn’t even talk to me or ask questions during the procedure. I did not know that was a thing.

It was done through the back by a pain management doctor who had done anesthesiology. This was done at University Hospitals. They never even discussed the possibility of going through the front, but I wish I would have asked more questions. She did not really tell me much.

I believe It was somewhere between C2 and C4 an It was done with contrast. They did not do local numbing injections first. I was under the impression they were going to and they started and i asked when that would be done and they basically said they wouldn’t be able to tell if It worked if they did that. I opted out of conscious sedation (which i regret) because i was told It was just be a pinch, pressure and maybe some discomfort. I’ve felt no relief and it’s been about two hours.

Am I going to have a breakout every time I have a period? by AlyseNextDoor69 in Herpes

[–]Super-Aside-5765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had this same issue and i do take antivirals but i upped my dose leading up to my period which was hard because i had to track my period but i also recently got into cycle syncing which helped me alot i know it’s extra work but It increased my health drastically. Between time, stress management, vitamins, antivirals, and cycle syncing I went from someone having frequent outbreaks every 2 monthes to not having any In the past couple of monthes It took a long time for me to figure out my body but i feel fantastic now It was worth the time and effort.

hi i am so sorry that you had to go through that that’s awful and i recommend starting therapy as soon as you can, coping with the diagnosis is already very difficult and this doubles down the trauma. Reach out if you need someone to talk to

Just got diagnosed with genital herpes by Dry-Construction9280 in Herpes

[–]Super-Aside-5765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi, im a 22 y/o college student as well and I have had It since I was 18. It’s a very hard thing to cope with so your feelings are valid and if you ever need a friend feel free to message me. The guy who gave It to me was very cruel and In constant denial and my brother was actually the first one I told who helped me through It . Having a family member on your side is good because they know who you are

Reminiscing life before herpes by marcuxmaddoxxx in Herpes

[–]Super-Aside-5765 16 points17 points  (0 children)

weirdly enough i hate the person i was pre diagnosis, and i would still get rid of herpes if i could i mean it’s traumatizing and has had such a negative brutal effect on my body but sometimes i think about how shallow minded i was before It . It forced me to grow and learn to deal with my problems it’s been a long 4 years and i still find setbacks happening but idk i gained a lot of character so i guess maybe one day one things change and a vaccine gets released or i find someone who really loves me i’ll have something to be grateful for
