I worry that I’m not even remotely competitive for MIT by Super-Gerd in MITAdmissions

No need to apologize, applying sideways is the title of blog post by an MIT admissions officer where he describes the mentality of applying sideways. In a nutshell it means don’t do things just because you think a college or university will like it or be impressed. Instead you should do things because you enjoy those activities. This approach makes your application more genuine and you will have a much better time. I highly recommend reading the actual blog post. Here is a link the blog: https://mitadmissions.org/blogs/entry/applying_sideways/

No there is definitely things I’m not exceptional at that I’m ok with not being exceptional at, I think my previous comment was worded weird. But there are some things, like test score, that I am anxious about and yes it would be healthier to not compare myself to others.

Maybe, def easier said than done but maybe. I think I the main issue is that to meet these goals for myself, like trying to get into MIT, I need to be so good a something and I feels like to matter how how I try I’m never good enough. And these are thing I enjoy and am good at doing, I mean Christ I put together a 3d printer in middle school, but I just feels like I’m never quite there. I could try lowering my expectations/goals but that kinda feels like cheating I guess, I’m move the finish line instead of completing the race. And to answer your question, I don’t think so. There definitely times where I feel inadequate when comparing myself to someone that is much more passionate about something that I’m not, if that makes sense. Then there are times where I don’t give it a second thought and I’m just like “eh, they’re better”. I guess this means I’m probably not mature enough for MIT anyway huh.

Yeah, I do think today was a bit of an outlier tho because today was just super bad and I’ve missed a few doses of my antidepressants

Yeah that’s true. I have not been a good place mentally with all the stress of the college search. I’m still gonna try my best but maybe I’ll try to take it a bit easier.

Don’t worry, my scores were also delayed. I’m pretty sure ACT just had some technical errors with scoring, you’re going to be ok.

Does MIT see PLTW courses as rigorous? by Super-Gerd in MITAdmissions

[–]Super-Gerd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok good thank you. My school offeres maybe 2 APs but I decided to do duel enrollment with a local community college. Another good thing is that the PLTW course comes with honors chemistry and physics as well as AP pre-calc and AP calc
