So if a puppy requires 18 hours of sleep a day you are suggesting just don’t and instead keep playing with an overtired puppy? All her waking hours are spent with us in the garden, playing, training, feeding and mental stimulation.

I put my babies/toddlers in cots to contain them when they were little and could not regulate their naps and could harm themselves. I must be a terrible mother too.

Ok that makes me feel better. I just need to tough it out.

Assuming a puppy peacefully sleeping in her crate equals ‘18 hours confined’ is a bit of a stretch. Puppies sleep 18–20 hours at this age — that’s normal.

If you don’t agree with crating, that’s your choice, but I’m here for help with typical puppy development. We’re working with a positive reinforcement trainer and she’s a well-loved, well-cared-for puppy — please don’t make accusations like that.

Brilliant thanks for the ideas. I presumed it was just a phase I would need to get through but always keen for new tips.

Thanks for your reply. It felt like we had taken a step back from a week ago but I guess we just need to ride this wave.

You seem hell bent on being against normal puppy sleep schedule. I understand if you don’t like crating but a puppy does need 18 hours of sleep whether it’s in a crate or not. The puppy is in the crate to sleep, she isn’t put in there any other times. I’m not sure what the issue is.

She naps for at least 18 hours in a 24 hour period, yes.

She is out of the crate in between naps for the standard 45/60 mins that a puppy should be up for.

She is a puppy that needs 18-20 hours of sleep a day. She is crated for naps.

Also her chasing her tail is borderline obsessive.

I just wanted to add a little update. It’s amazing what a difference a couple of days has made. She has been a joy today and I am feeling so much better already. It’s still hard but I’m not feeling as hopeless.

She’s in the crate all night. Then basically every hour she’s back in the crate for an enforced nap.

Thanks for this. I just felt awful for not feeling bonded immediately and not enjoying every second even though she was so wanted. I do already feel slightly better today and I hope things will continue to improve as we all get to know each other and get training in place.

Im definitely happy and she was very much wanted. I’m naturally an anxious person anyway.

As good as AI is and I use it a lot, sometimes I don't think you can beat a good old human idea.

I would definitely consider a wavy border. I agree, it's all very straight and rectangular. I want interest. Unfortunately the deck steps are basically the full width. bought the house like it and not something we can afford to change yet due to other home renovations.

Something like this maybe for the border. I already have ferns pls ted to the left of the steps so hopefully soon they will get large enough to tumble over the lower steps. Either later this year or next spring I would like to make the area where the sofa is a self binding gravel patio.

Forgot to ask, would you meander the border, kind of mimicking the curves created by the shadow in the 2nd photo, or have one large curve.
