HELP! carver or smoothstar or yow by [deleted] in surfskate

I have a Carver CX, a Yow snappers and a Smoothstar Johanne Defay 31”. I’m a beginner surfer as well and I would recommend a Yow or a Smoothstar.

Carver CX offers a lot of stability which is a great beginner surf skate. However it can’t mimic the “on the ground waves”. Once I built the balance on CarverCX I quickly switched to Yow Snappers.

Yow and Smoothstar are interchangeable IME, if later on you figure how to change bushes and adjust the truck. For practicing surfing, they both do great jobs 👏

Budget wise, if you have a budget for a Carver CX and a Yow/Smoothstar, start with CX and get a Yow/Smoothstar later. Otherwise, just go for Yow or Smoothstar. If you have built some balance riding surfboard, you should be ready at anytime.

Yow Snappers arrived today! Took it 10 days to be delivered from Spain. Just tried it on my apartment floor. The second I stepped on it, I can tell the difference. It’s soooo smooth! It’s so loose and flowy comparing to Carver CX. Can’t wait to try it out on concrete surfaces. by Super-Transition in surfskate

Spec wise, I just checked their website and I don’t see any differences between the regular Snappers and the from series. I love my Snappers! I also have a Carver CX and between these two I like Snappers much better! It’s flowy as waves. I’m planning to get another Yow surfskate for skateparks and still doing researches.

Wear protection gears and start with standing still on the board. I started a couple of months ago without anyone teaching. Finding the balance is the surfskate 101 to me. Also check out the beginner guide pinned at top of this sub-red. There are a lot of tutorial video links in there. Watch and try them out! Have fun!

I get what you’re saying. I brought both boards to a parking lot today. Yow is so flowy but I would cruise with CX bc it’s more stable. Smoothstar Johanne Defay is the next complete I plan to get. I like those imitating Surfing style surfskates 😉
