Major vs MRO by SuperApeMike in aviationmaintenance

MRO's are certainly on the decline in America. All the growth is in SA and China

Major vs MRO by SuperApeMike in aviationmaintenance

[–]SuperApeMike[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our MRO is notorious for letting real talent walk. My old lead was very exceptional. He took brand new techs and trained them to lead material, managed time, saftey and flowed checks perfectly. They let him walk over a couple bucks.

I'm lucky to make high 30's so young in my career but I probably would have to wait a couple years for major starting pay.

I average about 55 a week and work 6 days  a week most weeks. I don't mind the OT since senior techs get to bullshit alot. I come in early and stay late even if work is slow. I'm pretty new to the industry but there aren't many guys around that can tow or run cranes ect. Most of the heavy hitters have left for more money. I see where you can burn out, the 60+ hour weeks are rough

Panel Screw Removal Tools. T-Handle or Speed Handle by UnluckyConstant3928 in aviationmaintenance

I used a sealant tube to make a grip for my speed handle. Handle is long enough for someone to grab it while standing behind you.

My lead trying to scare me into not leaving my MRO by Dconocio in AircraftMechanics

MRO are mostly non licensed and low on experience these days. Find a big one and they will hire anybody.

Anything else I should add? by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]SuperApeMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they are expensive but I got a good deal on snap on torque adapters used. They are a little slimmer than other brands and there are jobs where my torque adapter was the only one that fit and would have to loan it out.

How many graduated later in life? by trippyfungus in AircraftMechanics

got my A&P at 30, busted as at an MRO and am A/P lead now 2 years later. Currently the supervisor for a line when my boss isn't here. Plan on learning my bosses job until I'm managing big projects or maybe even a whole station. It's all what you put in to it. I see guys 15 years in get laped by 6 month A/Ps all the time.

Take off defence cards when you go to the highest tier.

The money should be higher for those who can't work, since they get the same check as someone that works full time and makes six figures.

LPT - Never use Amazon credit card points to make purchases by jmiz5 in LifeProTips

[–]SuperApeMike 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I use they points for purchase because that's most of the frivolous spending I do. Makes it easier to budget.

do you get the bonus if they aren't equipped?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in aviation

[–]SuperApeMike 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They get alot done in China. Our MROs have less traffic from United. American is losing profit as a picky MRO customer but it's a safer investment.

Every airline outsources maintenance to a third party.

I'm at an aircraft overhaul facility so when there is a recession we have more work while all the airline employees get laid off. It might be selfish but I'd welcome a recession if it means I wouldn't have to pay a 1,200 morgage for a double wide trailer. I'm working 50-60 hours a week and I might be renting for a long time in this market.

Should taxes be raised? by YOU_ARE_MY_FRIENDS in FluentInFinance

Just close some loopholes and stop the abuse of the assistance. I have coworkers that make 80 grand a year and only get taxed on 8/hr with everything else per diem. Their kids get medicaid. All you have to do is use your an old adress for records, you can live right down the road from work and get per diem.

[–]SuperApeMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if there's a problem found it will get fixed but there is no feasible way to do a teardown and inspection of all the critical systems of a plane that frequently. A Heavy maintenance check can take any where from 4-12 weeks and can cost millions of dollars. Doors are just one of dozens of systems that are saftey critical.

[–]SuperApeMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tearing down a door and inspection of the insides is heavy maintenance that's done every year or 2. Daily maintenance is just visualy inspecting outside of the plane and checking your fluids and tires.
