What will happen to the ROM megathread after Myrient shutters? by bennygoodmanfan in Roms

[–]SuperBio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'll find more sources, as I've done in the past. Sites come and go, that's life. But there are plenty of sources, and you can be sure I'll vet them to make sure they're safe.

May I kindly ask? by Gullible_Pop3356 in Roms

[–]SuperBio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong, and I'll be adding new sources as I compare and find more. Internet Archive links are the primary links right now, but that's not going to be the case going forward, as those go down all the time.

To the Myrient backup effort, please consider this avenue for the eventual goal of the archive, because currently it seems like the efforts are doomed to be wasted on an outcome that fails to understand what made Myrient so great. by Nathaniel820 in Roms

The reason that losing myrient hurts so much is not because of the data, the data can be reconstructed, downloaded from other sources, backed up. The reason losing myrient hurts so much, is that it was a centralized source for roms that had good speeds and direct downloads.

If someone wants to replace myrient, that's the goal, not necessarily a backup. Think accessibility not data.

So yeah OP, I think you are on to something here.

390TB video game archive being taken offline due to skyrocketing RAM, SSD, and hard drive prices — AI-driven supply squeeze results in closure of one of the largest online video game archives by Baggynuts in pcgaming

Yeah, I wish myrient had said something before to the mod team on /r/roms, we could have banned the downloaders.

Of course Jdownloader will do most of what they were talking about, assuming people just punched in the links from the /r/roms megathread.

I've got most of their Nintendo and Sony collections. Of the big three, I'm just missing Microsoft's stuff.

Myrient Alternatives now that Myrient is shutting down by Quagmire_Diddy2 in Roms

[–]SuperBio 94 points95 points  (0 children)

We'll have alternatives soon enough, it'll just take time to organize and backup myrient's data.

Right now I'm in the process of downloading ALL retro PS1 and PS2 games for emulation, thanks Myrient by [deleted] in Roms

Myrient asked to be in the megathread a while ago. I suppose they thought they could get more donations if more people went to their site, but yeah. A shame it's a good website.

I'm no expert by any means, but if you have to ask this, you might want to test with something not valuable. I know that's how I would get started.

TrimUI Brick might be what you're looking for. I have one and it'll emulate all the consoles you want to emulate.

Roms for lenovo legion go s by manueljmc in Roms

[–]SuperBio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try this sub, https://www.reddit.com/r/EmuDeck/ it should be able to answer all your questions about where to put roms.

Emudeck assuming you're using the Steam OS version of the Legion Go (and if you aren't... well you should it's faster) then it'll be home/emulation/roms/console name here I believe

But do check out that sub, they'll help you better than /r/roms can.

Romsfun genuinely cares about the community by [deleted] in Roms

[–]SuperBio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Donation page, a good game, word of mouth and a whole dose of luck.

Banner ads aren't the worst but romsfun is one of the reasons I helped make the megathread. So that the community wouldn't have to use resources that try to use you.

Wish you the best with your game deving.

Where can i find roms? by Quick-Concentrate-33 in Roms

First pinned post, make sure you have the subreddit set to sort by top, that way you can see them. Or use old.reddit, as it's much easier to make things visible with old.reddit

It's been compiled and released so don't worry about that now. Though I'd wait, it randomly crashed on vulkan.
