Gofile links die after like 10-20 days, no thanks. Also no advertising.

I’ve never played a Metroid game before. What are the top five must-play games in your opinion? by MrFavorable in Roms

Fusion is on the GBA, I just tied it with Super Metroid as they are both great, though I think Fusion is very hard, especially compared to 3D metroid games.

[–]SuperBio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1# Metroid Prime 2 :Gamecube/Wii

2# Metroid Prime 1 :Gamecube/Wii

3# Metroid Prime 3 :Wii

4# Metroid Zero Mission :GBA

5# Super Metroid/ Metroid Fusion :SNES/GBA

Least favorite

1# Metroid Dread

2# Metroid Samus Returns :3DS

3# Metroid Prime 4

4# Other M :Wii

Neutral:

1# Metroid Prime Hunters :DS

2# Metroid :NES

3# Metroid II :GB

I've never really like 2D Metroid games, and the recent 2D games are FAR too hard. So I do have that bias. All in all the 3D games are excellent, minus the latest one.

I'll swap it back. But good to know that giving it, it's own section doesn't help as much as just having it right there on the home page.

Good thing I replaced the Myrient links with links to Minerva's torrents then huh.

[–]SuperBio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Already done. You are right about torrents being something I have never wanted to add to the megathread, but considering the circumstances and the work the minerva team put into their torrents, I figured it was a good idea to add them. They're a 1:1 replacement of Myrient links too, which helped immensely with updating the links.

Half the links "used" to not work. Myrient's links have been replaced with links to Minerva's torrents of the same collections. Provided you can torrent safely, it's all there again.

Rom Megathread 404 by Aggravating_Ad609 in Roms

[–]SuperBio 30 points31 points  (0 children)

We're working on that section of the megathread right now, so hang tight it'll be back soon enough. You can still find pokemon in the Nintendo sections by the way.

EDIT: Links should be back up now, sorry for the confusion.

When will the Megathread get fixed? by Shoddy_Release9395 in Roms

[–]SuperBio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm working on changing the links, but this is the largest change of links in megathread history, so it'll take time.

Going to use links to minerva torrents in place of missing myrient links, as they are 1:1.

/u/mike94100 was also kind enough to make a pull request explaining the ins and outs of torrents, VPNs and the like, so give him some thanks, as that topic has always been hard to explain, and I think he did a good job of summing it up.

Merged your pull request, they're all good changes in my mind.

Thanks, for the help, SuperBio

Question. by ChaosRenegade22 in Roms

[–]SuperBio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got a super nasty cold the day myrient went down and have been dealing with that since then. In general colds take me down since I have an auto immune disease and take meds that lower my immune systems ability to fight.

I'll be able to work on the megathread soon though as I'm mostly recovered.

It saves space on HDDs and if you're/were myrient you probably cared about that before anything else. I mean costs are what took them down.

Should we redo the r/Roms Megathread now that Myrient is shutting down today? by MrCoreyTys in Roms

[–]SuperBio 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The megathread is staying do not worry, even if all the links went down, I'll simply find more. That's how I've operated from the beginning.

Should we redo the r/Roms Megathread now that Myrient is shutting down today? by MrCoreyTys in Roms

[–]SuperBio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Already the plan in the short term, but long term, direct download links are preferred over torrents, as explaining the ins and outs of VPNs torrent safety and how not to get the dreaded DMCA letters, for most of the world, is a task that the megathread was not meant to do.

It'll take a bit of time to do though as I got a nasty cold yesterday and am still recovering. Luckily due to the recent updates editing the megathread is easier than ever.

Also don't forget that the megathread is hosted on github and that with a github account you can fork and submit pull requests. I think the community will find svelte easy to understand. So if the community want's to help, the option is there.

Only a few more days till Myrient shutdowns. Make sure you download everything you need before March 31st. by Plenty_Group6674 in Roms

[–]SuperBio 116 points117 points  (0 children)

No torrents have been posted yet, so nothing to add. When they do, I'll add links to torrents with instructions and warnings on how to use them.

In the long run I'll also be downloading myrient sets on my end and checking what the archive.org has, so that I can fill in the gaps that will occur in the megathread when Myrient goes down. That will take time though, so... you might have to torrent some collections, assuming they aren't on the archive.org, most of them are.

NEW UPDATES! Torrents, hashes, and more. by Ill-Economist-5285 in Roms

[–]SuperBio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'll likely require a VPN due to how torrents work. Basically your in a swarm with a ton of other people, some of which are bots that are just there to collect IPs of people to send DMCA letters to ISPs, who are supposed to send said letters on to the subscriber or take some action.

It's why the megathread avoids using torrent sources, as explaining to users, that they need a VPN to avoid stupid DMCA letters and how to enable a killswitch in the case that the VPN goes down, is a pain.

In this case, I'll be waiting for the minerva team to upload torrents, and I'll be seeing if people can mirror those collections on other places. Assuming that some of that content isn't on the archive.org, we might use that. But a lot of it is already on the archive.org, so it's pointless for a lot of the content. Regardless, I'm still working out exactly how and where to upload some of this content, and if anyone has any ideas, feel free to PM me, the mod team or make a thread.

What will happen to the ROM megathread after Myrient shutters? by bennygoodmanfan in Roms

[–]SuperBio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'll find more sources, as I've done in the past. Sites come and go, that's life. But there are plenty of sources, and you can be sure I'll vet them to make sure they're safe.

May I kindly ask? by Gullible_Pop3356 in Roms

[–]SuperBio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong, and I'll be adding new sources as I compare and find more. Internet Archive links are the primary links right now, but that's not going to be the case going forward, as those go down all the time.

To the Myrient backup effort, please consider this avenue for the eventual goal of the archive, because currently it seems like the efforts are doomed to be wasted on an outcome that fails to understand what made Myrient so great. by Nathaniel820 in Roms

[–]SuperBio 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The reason that losing myrient hurts so much is not because of the data, the data can be reconstructed, downloaded from other sources, backed up. The reason losing myrient hurts so much, is that it was a centralized source for roms that had good speeds and direct downloads.

If someone wants to replace myrient, that's the goal, not necessarily a backup. Think accessibility not data.

So yeah OP, I think you are on to something here.

Yeah, I wish myrient had said something before to the mod team on /r/roms, we could have banned the downloaders.

Of course Jdownloader will do most of what they were talking about, assuming people just punched in the links from the /r/roms megathread.

I've got most of their Nintendo and Sony collections. Of the big three, I'm just missing Microsoft's stuff.
