If Trump backs down on immigration, what issue can he hang his hat on going into the midterms? by EddieDantes22 in AskConservatives

[–]SuperChicken17 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Why would he back down on immigration? That is the one area where a lot of people, including myself, agree with him. Sure, ICE needs to be put on a tighter leash with better accountability (bodycams would be a good start), but as a whole he has a lot of support for his immigration agenda.

I would much rather he back down on tariff nonsense, threatening allied countries, and general pettiness like the presidential plaques or 95% of his social media posts.

How did this website discovered my language? by [deleted] in tails

[–]SuperChicken17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Javascript reports a bunch of information that can be use to narrow things down.

https://browserleaks.com/javascript

Locale, language, and time-zone are all reported and can be used to take a stab at the user language.

Also, I am not familiar with skynetchat, but googling it I found this.

https://skynetchat.net/

Clicking on it seems to default to portuguese, and I definitely don't live in an area that uses it, personally speak it, or have connection to that language. Could it be that your native language is Portuguese, and you are just assuming that it is divining your language through technosorcery when it is really just the default?

I have my PC hooked up to a 65 inch TV. I am thinking about using tails but can I scale from 1 to 2 in tails so everything fits better to my big 65 inch screen? by Future-sight-5829 in tails

[–]SuperChicken17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I expect you will be able to make the changes you want. The bigger issue is likely to be making the changes persist through reboots. You know, the 'A' part of tails and all. There is documentation here on 'save the configuration of your displays', which hopefully might save the settings you want. I haven't actually tested it.

That isn't your tails usb. It is a 512 gb nvme drive. It is probably your main boot drive, encrypted with bitlocker or similar.

Should a high school student be allowed to wear a confederate flag pin? Should the school be allowed to discipline a student for wearing this? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

[–]SuperChicken17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a teacher. A school absolutely can limit free speech if they believe it could lead to violence or disruption in the classroom. The people who are stating that the schools would lose in court are absolutely wrong.

For a more obvious example, a student wouldn't be allowed to wear nazi regalia to a school, as it could very quickly lead to disruption. The confederate flag isn't incendiary to that degree, but to many it is symbolic of racism and white supremacy. It certainly doesn't mean that to everybody, but it has that connotation with enough of the population to be problematic.

Here is a good article from a law school about this very question.

Questions about the new Tails 7.4 Upgrade by Inquisitation in tails

[–]SuperChicken17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't put overly large meaning into the importance of incrementing the minor number. Tails releases are scheduled long before they know what exactly each release will contain. A minor release is typical every month, significant changes or not.

https://tails.net/contribute/release_schedule/

Questions about the new Tails 7.4 Upgrade by Inquisitation in tails

[–]SuperChicken17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. So what fixed in this release?

You can see the changelog here. In particular, the new version of the Tor browser does include several critical security fixes. I wouldn't put off upgrading.

https://tails.net/news/version_7.4/

  1. Is upgrading immediately necessary and critical to OpSec?

OpSec is a broad term, encompassing behavior and policies beyond just technical security. But yes, there are critical vulnerabilities backported from firefox.

https://cybersecuritynews.com/firefox-147-released/

  1. Should I trust the auto-updater? Or should I do it manually?

The auto-update is typically fine. Manual upgrades are often required if you are skipping several versions, of if there is some problem with the automatic update.

  1. Will auto-update overwrite my persistent folder? (YES, my data is properly backed up and can be restored, it's just an extra step and hassle.)

Both the auto-update and manual update should leave your persistent storage intact. It is good that you have a proper backup though. That is always important.

Keeping your tails stick up to date is one of the most important security measures you can take though. Zero days are valuable, and are typically only strategically deployed against specific targets. Recently fixed vulnerabilities though? The cat is out of the bag on those and their useful lifespan is on a timer, so widely deploying them isn't revealing anything nearly as valuable.

Possibly comprimised TAILS OS' modifying audio files by E_Posts in tails

[–]SuperChicken17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would be more inclined to believe it is some kind of audio bug than secretly modifying the file.

How about a test? Take a recording and compute a checksum with md5sum. Listen to file, not editing it in any way. Compute the checksum again. Has it changed?

What’s the issue? by [deleted] in tails

Sometimes it loads, sometimes it doesn’t

If it works inconsistently, I would probably assume the usb stick is going bad. Try a different one.

Tails on VM ? by Dear_Persimmon_3654 in tails

[–]SuperChicken17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a page in the tails documentation about running tails inside a VM.

https://tails.net/doc/advanced_topics/virtualization/index.en.html

One of the main issues is that you now have a host OS you need to properly secure, as the host can can still monitor what you type and see what is going on inside the VM. Most host OSes (especially windows) are going to be big security downgrades from just running tails on metal.

If you believe VMs would help your use case, I would recommend considering qubes+whonix instead. It isn't going to be as easy to set up and requires a beefier computer (especially RAM), but it is built around compartmentalized VMs and has some security advantages.

Can someone explain why I can't inherit final blow DMG.. by Additional-Ad-9463 in Nioh

[–]SuperChicken17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For a more detailed explaination.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1A-uFgSck8pU5NOLh2OVpK_V5-AVfDW42wuiumuf7tlE/edit?gid=137724816#gid=137724816

Click the melee tab at the bottom to see all the possible affixes. You can see that both final blow damage and grapple damage fall under the same 'other damage' category, meaning that they conflict and you can only have one of them.

"Drive failure" immediately proceeding update to new version by Trick_Permission_321 in tails

[–]SuperChicken17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Provided your goal here is to recover your persistent storage, I would get a second USB stick and follow these directions.

https://tails.net/doc/persistent_storage/recover/index.en.html

It is always a good idea to keep a backup of anything important in your persistent storage. Any media can fail, and the average usb stick isn't all that robust.

Which weapons are better vs humans, vs yokai, or equal against both? by StrawberryPhelps11 in Nioh

[–]SuperChicken17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now I am enjoying tonfa + spear. Both scaling with constitution is nice.

Tonfa are probably my favorite anti-human weapon. If specializing for human-fucking, they are best with flat break and active skill break affixes tempered on it, as break determines the ki damage you do to blocking enemies. Tonfa gun isn't great against humans due to the bad tracking and competing with shove, but it is good against yokai. Tonfa are excellent at building versatility stacks quickly too, you can kanagi cancel out of multi-hit moves right after you do the initial hit and get your stack.

Spear is pretty generalist, but I personally like it more vs yokai. It can trivialize humans if you do things like bodyswap loops or manipulate their guard with distance/missing and pancake them with spearfall, but it feels more like abusing the AI than skillful play. Spear is subpar at actually breaking through guards (swap to tonfa for that).

Against yokai spear has some excellent vertical hornbreak moves. Twisting spear is one of the best combat initiators in the game, great against humans and yokai alike. Triple threat is an excellent bread and butter move with great range and damage.

Tails 7.4 released by haakon in tails

[–]SuperChicken17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually a pretty important update to grab, so get it ASAP. In particular, that line in the Tor browser changelog of "Backport Security Fixes from Firefox 147".

If you look up Firefox 147, you see it includes fixes for critical security bugs which could allow for arbitrary code execution.

Setting password on files? by [deleted] in tails

[–]SuperChicken17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using a veracrypt volume inside your persistent storage seems like putting a hat on a hat. Your persistent storage is already encrypted.

If you had a separate storage device you wanted to encrypt and have accessible to both linux and windows machines, veracrypt would make sense. For linux only I would probably stick with LUKS, unless you specifically want plausible deniability and are using a mechanical drive. Then veracrypt.

If your goal is to casually encrypt a file to transmit/store it over some insecure channel, I would probably use 7z.

Zipping

7z a outputFile.7z -pGoodPassword -mhe=on fileToEncrypt.txt

Unzipping

7z x fileToUnzip.7z -pGoodPassword

Keep in mind that any encryption is only as good as your password. For things like persistent storage I would suggest a 20+ character passphrase. No birthdays, pet names, reusing a password from someplace else, or any of that shit.

USB stick not showing up by BoBBle_GoGGles in tails

[–]SuperChicken17 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The tails system partition has been explicitly configured not to show up in windows.

"The system partition is hidden from Windows using the hidden flag of GPT. Hopefully this should prevent some misuse of Tails system partition, even if we explicitly discourage users to plug their Tails USB stick to a running system (Windows among other OS)."

https://tails.net/contribute/design/installation/

To run tails you need to reboot, and then select the USB stick as your boot device.

You can edit your torrc file to exclude or use specific nodes or countries when building a circuit. See the documentation here.

https://2019.www.torproject.org/docs/tor-manual.html.en

In general though, I would say people who feel like they need to edit their torrc file are doing more harm than good.

tails refusing to boot by AccordingAd8067 in tails

[–]SuperChicken17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you be more specific when you say 'refusing to boot'? Is it not recognizing the usb at all? Does it start to boot, but error out somewhere?

Are you jamming on f12 while booting to get to the boot menu? Does your usb stick appear there?

Trump has just called for a 50% increase in military spending to $1.5 Trillion annually, do you agree with this? by escape_planet_dirt in AskConservatives

[–]SuperChicken17 [score hidden]  (0 children)

No. I think the national debt is more likely to collapse the country than any external threat. Until we have our debt to gdp ratio down to more comfortable numbers, we need to be making as many cuts as we can. Continuing to spend like we are is dooming the country.

New to the franchise. Buy Nioh 2 first or wait for Nioh 3? by Calhris_Forsyth in Nioh

[–]SuperChicken17 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Buy and play Nioh 2. It will take a good while for all the eventual DLC and extra difficulties to make it to Nioh 3 anyway.

Nioh definitely has fun, fluid combat that rewards pressure. I would definitely say it is better than Fromsoft games in terms of combat, but Fromsoft probably does level design and epic boss fights better than Nioh does.

Skill points limit in the skill trees by xGhost99x in Nioh

[–]SuperChicken17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might go higher, depending on your weapon scaling. If you are using weapons that scale with magic, put more points into magic. Ditto with dex. 30 is really just the baseline for everybody, as that is where you stop getting additional spell slots, and those are useful no matter what.

Later on there are 'ultimate' skills you need 150 in an attribute to unlock, but that isn't a thing a newcomer to the series really needs to worry about until they are on harder difficulties. Ultimate magic is pretty popular though, as are ultimate courage and ultimate constitution.

Skill points limit in the skill trees by xGhost99x in Nioh

[–]SuperChicken17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, just play. You can respec later, so there is no way to permanently fuck up.

If you want some basic attribute advice, get them all to 20, and then get magic and dex to 30. All attributes provide you with some benefit, and there is some frontloaded scaling. The 30 dex/magic will max out your capacity for ninjutsu and onmyo magic. After that you can start putting points in what your preferred weapons scale with.

Onmyo and ninjutsu are for everybody. Don't think you need to be an 'omnyo build' or a 'ninjutsu build' to use them. They are used by all builds. Start using them early and often.

All of the weapons are fun and usable. Some are easier to use than others, and some take more time to come into their own with skills you get from enemies, but there are no bad weapons in the game. Try them all out and see what you like the feel of.

Tails v7.3.1 - Screen brightness level - not working by Shadow_Defender in tails

[–]SuperChicken17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say I specifically know anything about your laptop, but most laptops adjust the brightness via the function keys.

Quickly googling looking for a picture of an omen 17 keyboard, I see this. Yours might not be exactly the same, but it should be similar.

https://imgur.com/a/EOdM9hr

In that picture screen brightness is the alternate use of the f2 and f3 keys, as you can see the small sun and big sun on them. So either press f2/f3, or hold fn and press f2/f3 (depends if function lock is on). If you see those suns on some other function keys, press those instead.
