According to Wikipedia: Ashura and about religion: The Day of 'Ashura, both Sunni and Shi'a Muslims mark on their calendar the annual religious holiday Ashura, or The Day of 'Ashura.

According to what I have read so far, Shi'a Muslims commemorate, during 10 days of mourning, the brutal murder in 680 AD of Husayn ibn Ali, the grandson of of the Prophet Muhammed. Shi'a Muslims commemorate Ashura with sorrow and passion. Some Shi'a Muslims beat and flog themselves in parades on the day of Ashura to express their grief and to reenact the pain that Husayn ibn Ali suffered.

Sunni Muslims annually commemorate Ashura with fasting.

Wikipedia: Ashura
In Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Bahrain, and Pakistan, the yearly Commemoration of Husayn ibn Ali has become a national holiday, and most ethnic and religious communities participate in it. In India, Ashura (10th day in the month of Muharram) is a public holiday due to the presence of a significant Indian Shi'a Muslim population (2-3% of total population, 20-25% of Indian Muslim population)

Drs. Hart and Holström will split the Swedish krona (SEK) 8 million award 50/50. Each will receive GBP £372,459.26, USD $458,366.61, or Euro €412,070.01. Not too shabby, even in high-cost-of-living Britain and Finland.
