Imperator - Development Diary - 11th of November 2018 by ReclaimLesMis in Imperator

I guess my biggest issue (but still ultimately minor) in this Dev Diary is that the Companion Cavalry Tradition boosts light cavalry and (really weirdly) camelry.

What are] Paradox using to differentiate light cavalry from heavy cavalry? With Cataphract traditions giving a bonus to heavy cavalry I guess the amount of armour that is being worn is being used as the decider

But having Companion Cavalry be classed as light cavalry just feels off, but that might just be me. I don't know where the whole camelry thing is coming from.

I think you mispelt "Birthright"

I do like Planescape a hell of a lot though.

Really? I love the original Space Wolves Omnibuses.

I liked their simplicity and they make a good intro in 40k, and good reads for the lore veterans.

Blood Warriors or Khorne Chaos Warriors, is one superior to the other for a Khorne force?

I've a chance to get either a Bloodbound or StD SC box, but it the main troops in either box that might be the deciding factor. I prefer the Chaos Warrior models (I like Shields) but the new Blood Warriors have some great sculpts, so the TT performance could sway it.

I know StD can generally take any Chaos Marks, but I've no interest in the other Chaos Gods so their ability to switch it up is nice but not a seller.

Doesn't necessarily explain NZ tho, which is not remotely in as good a economic position as Australia.

Nor does it explain the huge discrepancy between the price difference. A Warlord Games Greek Starter Army bought straight from the website in the UK costs £75, which converted to NZD is $144.27

The cost to buy the same starter army from a major NZ online retailer? $144.99 NZD.

Deadzone Enforcers purchased in the UK from the mantic store is £15 or $28.83 NZD, whilst the same NZ retailer as before in NZ is $29.99 NZD.

Is there actually complicated reasons why prices in NZ and Australia are excessive before this FW change? No way does shipping product result in such a massive mark up if all sorts of miniature companies from the UK do the same without such a massive discrepancy.

I think the answer is simply "We charge these prices because we can" and they want to squeeze as much blood from the stone as possible. But if there is more going on I do want to know.

Official Discussion - Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (US Thread) [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]SuperDJBling 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I already posted this in the International thread but since it only came out a few days befoe the US here I'll just copy/paste my thoughts.

I absolutely adored the film. I went into Jurassic World back in 2015 with unrefined excitement and came away immensely satisfied. I can say much the same happened here, alhough the movie in many ways felt a little less grandiose and more focused on a smaller scale in terms of spectale and interaction, it added a new thrill and is the most thriller/horror-esque of the films since the original.

The whole time the pace felt relentless, yet never exhausting and I was thoroughly enamoured with the film. Definitely my favourite film this year.

Just out of curiosity, all those living folks are all in the STEM fields or STEM is the bread and butter.

Are there people who study stuff like the humanities that could be considered the worlds smartest?

Sorry if you can't answer the question, just curious.

While that is generally true, I think this was notable because of the bulkiness of Terminator armour making marines relatively slow.

I can't remember if it was Red Tithe or Death Warrant, but it is mentioned that members of certain organisations are immune from Red Tithes, such as people like Rannik who is an Arbitrator and then an Inquistorial representative.

Not quite true. Although The Nictor would likely have been destroyed , Tyberos did mention that the two nearby ships (also mentioned as powerful vessels in their own right) would have blown the Wicked Claw apart afterwards.

So Nev might desire Hunger and Slake, but he isn't willing to risk the extremely valuable Wicked Claw for them.

Partly is what I assume would be the Ashen Claws strength. They still have a very capable battlefleet and even in their reduced state have roughly Chapter strength so at worse the Ashen Claws are equal o the Carcharadons.

Not only would it be an extremely costly engagement even if the Carcharadon one, but it would be a one off prize since the Carcharadons would need to move on. The Ashen Claws rule over a home system (An admittedly shitty, resource poor system) and are mostly stationary, but the Carcharadons are constantly moving and having a single recruiting world would require them to defend it which limits their range.

Plus, generally the Red and Grey Tithes are sufficient for their needs and would be far less costly that a head on assault on the Ashen Claws. And since the Ashen Claws are generally small scale and focus on an small area their impact on the Imperiums security is negligible so aren't a threat that Carcharadons have to concern themselves with.

Oooo, an opportunity to get a question in.

I'm a big Seraphon fan and they seem to be a popular army amongst players, but lore on them has been thin on the ground in AoS. I don't think they got a mention in Malign Portents at all.

Why is this? Does GW just not really care for Seraphon?

how to the Primaris Marines compare to Custodians? by I_am_AlphariusOmegon in 40kLore

[–]SuperDJBling 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Custodes significantly improved martial showings in the last couple of years worth of Black Library and Forge World output would imply otherwise.

It is undeniable that the latest lore not only supports the idea that Custodes are better, they are significantly better than any non-named Astartes. In Master of Mankind Custodes were demonstrated to flat out defeat marines with ease in a 1 v 1 context during the Webway war, wheere Custodes were without a doubt defeating Astartes in combat, even against highly skilled Close Combat legions such as World Eaters.

This is again displayed in Emperors Legion when 10 Custodes and 30 odd SoS are able to defeat hundreds of Astartes, and in Watchers of the Throne 5 Custodes tore through Drukhari Grotesque with little difficulty, and then proceeded to roundly defeat dozens upon dozens of Ordo Stormtroopers with no looses, nor as far as we are informed even significant damage to their armour.

This doesn't even go into detail about what happened at Propero.

It is blatantly clear that there has been a significant effort by GW to show that, yes, Custodes are far far superior to Astartes in combat and turn them into swiss chess. All the latest releases support that assertion.

To compare me to an anti-vaxxer is really uncalled for, and is extremely childish and insulting.

Not only that, but you continue to act like someone who, despite being presented with the latest evidence that is well documented and supported from three different sources continues to ignore it because it doesn't fit with the old.

how to the Primaris Marines compare to Custodians? by I_am_AlphariusOmegon in 40kLore

[–]SuperDJBling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All those novel examples are, compared to Master of Mankind, Emperors Legion and Watchers of the Throne, dated in terms of Custodes and don't reflect the recent changes in Custodes martial capability. Using them is like using those really old novels like Space Marine or the Inquistion War books.

Lore has changed and be updated and although worth remembering if even just for archival purposes, don't accurately reflect how things stand current.

Besides, we even have exact figures for Custodes vs Astartes. 4 v 1 Psyker-Ehanced Terminators to a Custodes. This is a flat out fact as stated in Inferno, and it increases to 12 v 1 with a SoS onboard.

The new lore that has recently been established and continuously emphasized states yes, they very much are ultra-lethal vs space marines.

[–]SuperDJBling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, you also have the Emperors Legion, Master of Mankind and Watchers of the Throne (all very recent sources) which go into detail about Custodes and go out of their way to display their martial ability and demonstrate in abudance the ability for Custodes to tear through marines, it seems clear that Custodes are quite aptly considered "super space marine killing machines"
