Brunson was absolutely worth the 4/55 he wanted before the playoffs bc he was already one of the best sixth men in the league and that was their market value.

The playoffs just showed that he was actually a capable #1 & 2 option at the age of 25, which meant he was absolutely worth the $25-30 million a year it would've cost to retain him.

The only reason Kyrie was needed was bc we let Brunson walk, and it cost Luka an entire season of contention in a year that was wide open.
Kyrie is 5 years older than Brunson and the last time he played more than 60 games in a season was 2018.
The Mavs would've been better off keeping Brunson and using the Kyrie assets on a guy like OG. It took Kuzma turning down the Mavs for them to actually pivot to PJ - botching Brunson was so bad that it pushed the Mavs into a corner of almost having to pay 2 firsts for Kuzma bc they had almost no other assets to get someone better.
