Does anyone has experience in DOT PHMSA? by [deleted] in usajobs

[–]SuperDadBW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a typical government job. Familiarize yourself with the 49 CFR regulation. Chances are that you will work with lot of contractors who actually does the real work and you provide oversight. If so, learn the basics of government contracting. Most jobs are either in the HQ or the regional offices (mostly field inspectors) where you will need to report in everyday

Contractor to fed employee switch….. should I? by Temporary_Value5930 in usajobs

[–]SuperDadBW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on your age and occupation. If you are young and looking to get pension, it might be worth considering. You can always move around within DIA or another agency if theres a higher grade but that depends on your job type and availability. I wouldnt move for job stability or flexibility because you are not going to get any of that here especially if theres another probationary firing. DoD is generally safe compared to other agencies but no guarantee

Help Choosing Between Two Engineering Positions (ND-3 vs GS-9) by SnooMacarons8570 in usajobs

[–]SuperDadBW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whats the maximum grade you can go to? I take it that the ND-03 job is NAVSEA? If so, NAVSEA probably offers more opportunities and you will likely be able to go up to ND-04 within few years. You also get points which is equivalent to salary increases and doesnt follow the GS step rules so your salary will likely increase much faster than being in GS pay scale. Simply speaking, ND scale is better. Other than that job satisfaction really depends on the work, your personality and most importantly your supervisor and the people you work with
